Company Boss Karl Winn  of WebEurope web design company has said he would rather employ paedophiles and child molesters rather than ex servicemen

Full story on the Daily Mail

    The website > http://www.webeurope.co.uk/

How about that for politics, is there any members here on DP connected to this Company by any chance?

    ehh...what an ass
Well I never heard of that company and surely I will not work with it.

I wonder why idiots of his kind stand up for what they really think only after they have been "exposed". Why not write in the TOS or the homepage or anywhere: "We will not hire or work with people who serve in the armed forces."

Also, and without exception, the ideals of this kind of people stop when it comes to their own wallet: he will never hire ex servicemen, but will definitely always provide services to ex servicemen for a nifty sack of $$s - ex serviceman client? who cares, welcome!

You are right ChaosTrivia, no doubt he would take an ex serviceman client, and take said client for a ride to.

I don't think Mr Winn and his Company can legally add those sort of stipulations to their TOS according to the Laws of England & Wales presently as they would be regarded as discriminatory.

The fact Karl Winn has stated this is bad enough, considering the people he is referring to are the troops that are fighting the likes of the Taliban (who produce a majority of the World's heroin) and Al Qaeda (who admit to things like 9/11) but what is worse is he is for all intents and purposes stating if an amputee who was an ex service person applied for a position in his Company he would turn them down on that basis alone.

My argument is, we all didn't ask for this problem, I mean Afghanistan, it was forced upon us by very bad regimes that not only devastated peoples lives in their own Country, it also has repurcussions Worldwide, with things like the heroin trade, that ruins lives and has knock on effects we can only begin to fathom.

I think Karl Winn should be made to employ an ex service person injured in these regions so he can be kept an eye on and so he understands that, yes maybe the services in question are not perfect (far from it), yet they are the ones on the frontline dealing with things that if they didn't help deal with by joining these services we would have to do so as National Service would be brought in very swiftly.

Admirable thought, but if I were a judge and saw this come across as a suit regarding employment I'd go the other way.
Make him hire ONLY drug dealer and child molesters... see how that works out.

I read this earlier today and am glad someone has posted it. Personally I like both ideas, Rev and robjones.

I wonder if he has kids or a wife? I'd think not, but I kind of hope he does - I don't see anyone staying with him after something like this.

Maybe they could send him to prison to interview perspective employees?

I dont know the laws that apply to employment in the UK, but regardless on a practical note he's shooting himself in the foot if he avoids hiring vets. Ex-mil employees in general tend to stand out in a number of areas over the general population. There's a lot to be said for the discipline, respect for and understanding of chain-of-command, experience motivating and managing subordinates, and general can-do attitude of people with a military background. Lessons they learn... like the USMC "improvise / adapt / overcome" credo easily translate into good habits outside the military.

People that hire vets dont do so JUST as a thanks for having stood guard over their freedom while others slept... they do it because it's good for the company too. If he's unaware of that... it's to his own detriment. I'll buy a vet or a serving member a drink in a bar anytime I meet one just because they deserve our respect and gratitude for their service.

Many people will be, and are appalled, by Karl Winn's statements and stance. You just have to see the comments and the voting of comments on the Daily Mail article.

On another site I saw someone agreeing with Mr Winn's views also accusing troops of all sorts of things.

My partners brother served as an Officer in Iraq and he didn't do so in order to torture and murder, I hear stories of playing football with local children and the likes. Whilst at the same time I hear about the dangers such troops had to face on a day to day basis.

It has been a tradition here in the UK for people to go into the armed services in order to learn a profession and as you say Rob Jones such people can indeed make some of the best employees for all the reasons you stated.

    @alexispetrov

That's not a bad idea "prison" as he should probably get a couple of months or so for having been proved he took such a stance and made such statements.

robjones is spot on regarding the things ex military personnel bring to the table - of course there are a few bad eggs, but it's one in thousands upon thousands.

I know there are hate speech laws in the UK and whilst he doesn't directly say "ex servicemen and women are scum" he is placing them below pedophiles, meaning he believes these people are as low as you can get, basically.

I hope two things, one being that there is never a time a child enters his place of business and the other being that one night after a few too many he enlists.

Stupid .... Well, you fill in the blank - I already have infractions for colorful language :p

Despite finding someone's stated opinion to be beneath contempt... I have zero desire to foster any "hate speech" laws for the simple reason that they're subjective and what some people consider "hateful" can pretty much include any opinion they disagree with. Hate speech laws are a step in the wrong direction for any person that values free speech.

I figure anyone has a right to be as big a butthead as they want, and if I try to use the law to stop them from expressing things I think are contemptible that same law could be used by someone else against me. Having a free market for speech beats the hell outta empowering someone else decide if the thoughts you voice are fashionable this year. Let the buttheads be buttheads at the top of their lungs and beat them on points, not legal technicalities.

I too have zero desire to foster them, however in the UK it seems they will forever exist and currently serve namely the interests of ah hem, a certain religious group. I gave up supporting free speech for the UK after Sharia law was accepted there - I figure it is a lost cause but that it might as well be put to some good use, for once.

yup. I'm sure he can't, and that's even a better argument. What he does is surely illegal.

LOL. maybe he should mail this guy and ask him if he is looking for a job. http://infidelsarecool.com/2010/01/18/saudi-arabia-80-year-old-man-marries-11-year-old-girl/
