    Hello all,
My issue is I am working with a client who purchased design and web hosting package for thousands of dollars. The company un-known to them was sold to another company. They paid for X number of months in hosting so did not start to be billed until about a year ago. This company has you contact them for all changes. And you are only allowed 2 hours of changes per month. They could not provide me with a listing of fees of how much additional pages would cost.

This model is not working with the owners plans - he wanted to be able to update and add more products, etc.

After trying to work with the company I got no where. I finally asked for the code to switch hosting companies. I was granted that, It took a few days of playing phone tag, for me to speak with the company again. They gave me directions on what to do.

They went ahead and had my domain name renewed (with their company name and info) and billed my account $80 US -
I let them know do not do this,/I talked with them just on friday I specifically told them I was going to be switching.

They responded and said that we didn't want to loose the domain, if you want to buy it for $200 or

keep our service for 60 days and pay $ 100 cancelation fee

    or
let us cancel it, refund your money and you may or may not be able to recover your domain name

Those are my current options I will also add that this website has not made many sales over the course of a 2 year period.

I think that it may good to start fresh - with a domain name that has keywords that people actually look for based on the products this company sells

*I already found another web hosting company, the website making tools with the company seems very good for the html challenged - so that anyone in the business can add to and make changes.

*Also this domain had products for sale only, no content - these are high priced unique items I feel that adding content along with the listings will help

What are you thoughts and advice based on your experience?

Please give me your advice based on your opinion.

You must have had some kind of contract with the other company before it was sold. If you buy a company you buy the customers and must stay within the guidelines of the contract you can't just go and do whatever you want.

Either way I would get out of there fast they don't sound like reasonable people to me and will probably destroy a business that someone built up for years with great service. But you should still try and get everything you can back from them if possible before you take off to another hosting service.

    Sounds like real good advice.
