Hello everyone, I recently came across a 'For Sale' sign on a local web site I pay a lot of attention to. Being a 3rd year Business Student at the University of Regina, a freelance web developer and an avid golfer I find the idea of owning a golfing web-site extremely empowering. I sent an email to the owner of the web site discussing price and valuation as well as what my intentions would be should I become the new owner. He replied back stating that the financial statements support an asking price of $95,000.00 with a profit margin of 85%. The address is http://www.saskgolfer.com Being a university student, it shouldn't come as a surprise that this amount of money is out of my reach, even with parents signing as a co-signer. We are middle-class and I am responsible for paying my own tutition. Here's a short summary on the statistics of said website: Online since Jan 06, 2000 Avg. daily page views - 262 Avg. daily ads revenue Now I do realize there are numerous other advertisements on the web site that he has set-up through local course agreements which would indeed generate a monthly income depending on the contract. He has also used Google Adsense as well as some affiliate marketing. Being a web developer myself I would like to create a new website exclusively for Saskatchewan. The competitive advantage would be the traffic I would attempt to drive to my web site, both organic and inorganic. For example, if advertisers are paying $50/month to be placed on the website and are only receiving 262 possible views per month or ~ 8.7 views per day a web site with significantly more local traffic should be a no brainer for courses to advertise with. I believe that if I market a new web site for Saskatchewan, via the Chamber of Commerce, local Tournaments, Newspaper, Social Media and the radio I will be able to drive larger amounts of traffic. With an effective CMS system and enhanced usability features, the younger generation of computer users as well as the older will be able to easily identify and accept it as their source for golf in this province. Now If I did create a new web site for the local population what would / could the legal implications be for such a thing. Surely such a subjective idea such as a golf course web site cannot be patented - I do believe I have what it takes for this venture and am excited for the though of operating a golf-based small business. I appreciate all thoughts or advice anyone can give me on this venture. Particularly any suggestions or ideas anyone may have. Kind Regards, Derek
I would suggest you to not buy the whole site instead try to partner with him such as by buying let say 10% of the website ownership for $9.5k.
