I found this site, for setting up a server at home: http://www.diywebserver.com/ or http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html p.s.: Why are all people telling jblfan, that he should consider a VPS or Dedicated server!? That's not really what this thread is about, he ask for some info about, how he can setup a server at home.
wat do u mean u mayb able to help.. does this mean if u need to run a proper server system then things like vmware and such are not a good idea... even for home.. is it safe to say u must have a dedicated server setup and have a dns setup from a good dns provider????
ya you can run a homeserver. Its fairly easy. Just get Box, and make sure you have static IP address and good connection. Maby Cable internet. The best one they got available. Where I live the best one is 100 kb/s Upstream.. Then use the Zonedit to map your domains to your IP and and set up appserv on this box. and configure apache virtual hosts to your Domains..etc. There is really good tutorial on it Homeservers here You won't beable to do any heavy bandwidth things with this though, like putting huge files for download..etc. Unless you can get T1 line in residential area which I doubt...even at that those cost hundreds of dollars or thousand a month I don't know.Probably cheaper finding another dedicated server somewhere..Lol
Some home providers will actually cancel your service for running a website, game server or anything else close to this from home.
