I was wondering. Does the number of web pages included in a site help in SEO? How many pages do you think is ideal for a typical website to have? Does it have any effect in promoting your SEO or does it mean that the more pages you have, the more work you should do?

thanks for inspiring some good conversation.

As you probably realize by being from a 'web support and global outsouring' company, number of pages are important if they all have interesting unique content. Although a five page affiliate site can outrank you if the owner spams forums and blogs with their sig link. But that is a numbers game and they don't really care about list building usually.

If you have lots of good pages with long tail keywords in the title and pages, google is likely to pick people up for these and increase your visitor count, which can use positive feedback with google to boost your rankings.

There is no typical website, but of course shopping sites can have many thousands of pages. the real trick is to keep adding new pages for google to find, which is why blogs are so popular.

this all takes time and effort which you balance with posting to forums such as this.

    Hope that helps

    simply put.

keywords + good content = good web page.

good web pages + a lot more of good web pages = increased visitor count

constant increase in visitor count = high Google Page Rank

high Google Page rank = Hard Work

    agree?

Visitor count has nothing to do with rankings. Visitor behavior does.

The reason why you see bigger sites ranking higher in the SERPs is mostly due to one factor only: links. Put simply, larger sites have more internal linking opportunities than smaller sites.

    More "pages" means more "content".
More "content" means more "keyword phrases" you can target.
More "keyword phrases" means more coverage on SERPs.

But above all, your web pages should be of some use for your visitors.

I am not saying to add hundreds of pages with "useless" & "non-targeted" content. Try to come up with something new and of quality for your visitors that entertain them; and provide them with information they are searching for.

    Good luck,
