web page resize

Hello!
In Photoshop CS2 i have made ​​a web page design, but there is a problem. It's to big: 1256x1490 pix. However, I need to 1024 x ... pix. Please anybody can tell me, how correct reduce the file to fit for WEB.
I tried simple image size, but technical specialist said: it was uncorrect...

but try to reduce the size by clicking resize image

 

You will do it through editing Canvas Size.

 

Go to Image --> Canvas Size (Or Alt+Ctrl+C)

if you try to reduce through canvas size than your will disturb. so i will suggest that dont go with canvas and try to make new one.

 

Except, it won't. You need to set the anchor the way I did in my screenshot. That way the the canvas is resized from left, right and bottom. The central content is fine.
