Some webhost provider support only OS and web server. So if the wordpress blogsite is down, non-technical customers will face difficulties to bring up the website. Is there any web hosting provider that have extended technical support beyond OS and web server support? Most likely I need Wordpress + open source ecommerce support.
You need to find a host that offers web management as part of their services as well. A majority of the host won't do it because you need quite a bit of knowledge for that. But hosts should be able to help you out to some extent when you ask them, they just won't be proactive about individual sites going down especially if it isn't the server's doing.
That's precisely why most hosts won't do it. Support staff, particularly experienced ones with qualifications, cost money ..... a lot of money. Since these applications can be complicated, and a lot of the users of this software aren't going to have a great deal of knowledge, if the host provided support too much time will be spent giving free support that isn't anything to do with the host. Host support is about supporting problems with their systems, not providing free PC advice, development, troubleshooting PC errors, or help with the customers software. Every day we get requests, "can you give me advice about the best software to use?", "how to I purchase this ecommerce software and will it work for me?", "can you read this document [50 pages] and tell me what you think?", "how do I create a site using PHP?", "how do databases work?", "can you telephone me and talk me through creating the first page of a new web site so I can learn HTML?". If we can give a short answer we do, if not we quote our standard rates, give them an estimate about how long it will take to research and answer their question or provide the help they ask for, and ask them to come back if they want us to invoice them in advance of the carrying out their request. Not many come back when they realise how much it costs us for our time, expertise, or opinion.
Each web application you are working with does have some requirements. Make sure they match with what web hosting provider offer. I suppose many web hosts will be able provide that for you
