    Some good reading here.

I too, at first was looking for numbers, but overselling was not as popular.

Now, some offering unlimited or big numbers, are more after the quick sale then a long term relationship with a customer. Like previously said.

I prefer to pay more for realistic numbers. When numbers seem's alright and not oversold, I believe reliability is the result.

Thanks tech. Very informative post. Considering all the aspects, what do you suggest i should go for a large community site?

A dedicated host? if yes then which company is more reliable?

    He's only offering:
    100 MB Space - 1000MB Bandwidth
Which is not much at all, but would suit many smaller sites

    How big is the community?
How many pageviews, how many concurrent users?

Yes, as "cyanide" said 1GB of bandwidth is nothing for us but it's much enough for bloggers who want to make their own blog without blogspot or wordpress subdomain

usually starting bloggers don't make enough money off their blogs - I thought about giving them some chance to get their blogs to the light

I don't pay for the resources they use since I paid for it already and they are idle resources so just thought of making some people happy :)

Well, in order to really use those 3000GB you need much CPU and RAM and you won't find much in shared hosting

They just depend on the fact that not all the users will use all their allocated resources in the same month ;)

To be honest, all the hosts do oversell (this is the nature of that business) but it depends on the overselling level

look at the example mentioned on the first post for more info about this part ;)

    Nice thread :)

but still selecting a host is a difficult task....

Overselling (+ bad support) = Cheaper plans
Quality hosting == big money (sometimes not worthy for low profile sites)

If you put the downtime and the visitors and revenue you lose when using a bad quality host, then on the long run you are making a wise decision by paying few $ more to buy a good host with the peace of mind ;)

Something else, I'd like to add onto here after we've received several customers from this forum and I noticed a very bad trend.

    Ways of receiving support:

You should not have to come to a forum and send a pm to the person who sold you for hosting in order to receive support. The reason I bring this up is a lot of the people who ordered hosting from us on here send me pm's. I assume this is a bad habit instilled due to other people they've bought hosting from on here previously.

You should receive support from a ticket system (emails as well generally) or possibly a live chat on their web site. Things like pm me on x forum or send message on msn to an owner is not a great way of receiving support. What happens if this person is not on? What happens if they block you? There is also no ticket or chat history if you decide to actually use their real support system.

Yeah, this is annoying specially when you get a PM without mentioning domain name so you don't have any clue what client are you talking to

While in a ticket you can check the client's account/invoices without having to ask him about it

Hope people change and take this seriously for their own good as well :)

nice point you had here man - Rep added ;)
