Say that you're targeting english keywords with an english version website. I was told that if your web hosting is located for instance in Spain, Italy, France etc, that could be bad for rankings. This due the different language of the host. Another myth or some reality on this? NOTE: I'm not talking about the domain extension .es, .it , .fr etc . Just the hosting location. Thanks
This is a myth if you ask me. Google doesnt go that deep into hosting records, etc. For all they know you can be routing US readers located in spain to a server located closer for higher speeds... ... shouldn't be an issue.
It is a factor, but only really comes into play in the absence of other 'clues' as to the intended geo-target Does location of server matter? I use a .com domain but my content is for customers in the UK. Google considers both the IP address and the top-level domain (e.g. .com, .co.uk). Because we attempt to serve geographically relevant content, we factor domains that have a regional significance. For example, ".co.uk " domains are likely very relevant for user queries originating from the UK. In the absence of a significant top-level domain, we often use the web server's IP address as an added hint in our understanding of content.[/I]http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2007/08/server-location-cross-linking-and-web.html
