Web hosting: is unlimited bandwidth and storage real?

I'm about to get web hosting for a site, and I see lunarpages and hostgator advertising their plans with unlimited bandwidth and storage.

Any know if this is for real? Or are there any pitfalls and strings attached? It's just hard to believe on a shared host.

I don't know specifically about those 2 hosts but I would say it's real in the sense that if you use to much your delivery time to surfer is going to degrade so much if your site takes off that you will upgrade or move to a better server before you ever have a chance to find out. Let's face it a site where it would matter doesn't use a shared hosting account, they usually grow into dedicated servers or more. Just a thought as I have used several shared hosting accounts in the past and I eventually grow out of them before I could even come close to testing their offer.

I don't see how you can physically have unlimited bandwidth or storage, at least not for an "unbelievable" set price :)

Not really. Its better to show them your site first and depending on traffic they will tell you which kind of plan to use.
