Web Hosting Control Panel

Discussion in 'Apache' started by amanda999, Jan 18, 2009.

    Hi Apache Room

I have Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3 with Apache, hmail, and FileZilla Servers installed and working well.
I host several of friends and family's small websites at the moment.
I would like to install a Web Hosting Control Panel to better manage those websites.
Anybody please provide me with some suggestions about what Web Hosting Control Panel I should use (I am a supporter of open source software)

Most of the control panels require fresh server. Also, I am not aware of any open source cp that can work on Windows XP.

Kailash , could you define "fresh server" for me. I think you mean the control panel is installed first . Am I correct ?

I meant that there should not be installed any control panel previously. Because sometime control panels require to make changes in system file (ex. cPanel). So there is a chance that the new control panel may not fuction properly.

    I recommend cPanel

    cPanel.net

    Number one Control Panel

and also iPanel, which is an add-on to cPanel.

cPanel can't be installed on Windows. It is currently under development and it will work only on Windows 2008 server.

Kailash : I haven't installed a control panel previously , so there isn't the issue of prior install . While I have you here ... what control panel do you recommend ?

cPanel requires a fresh installation CentOs or Red Hat
then it will turn your whole computer into a server! I recommend it.

Windows XP... Hmm.... I am not sure if Plesk would run with Windows XP. If you were running a server edition it would though.

As far as I know, webmin only uses Apache. I also just became aware of the fact that you can run webmin on windows, very neat. :)

It's a good control panel, but if you're coming from a cPanel world you'll notice the difference.

I have gone through Vista Panel, Plesk and Cpanel.

Of all these 3, Cpanel is the best and the most sold.

I havnt seen a FULL control panel of direct admin, but would wish to review it if i get a chance. :)

It does probably work out well. You need to ask the support there. I think i have seen windows hosting servers providing Cpanel for windows aswell. And they allow you to go into the server via VNC or teamviewer.
