Web hosting company tools

    Hi,

    I want to start a hosting company bought a server with below specifications

    Intel Q9550, 4x 2.83 GHz CPU
    8.192 MB RAM, DDRII Ram
    2x 500 GB SATAII Harddisk

    Operating System
    CentOS 5.2

    CPanel/WHM

    I am using Litespeed Server for best performance. Now I want to know which modules/softwares do I need to control spam, abuse and excessive CPU usage monitoring and automatic suspension of account in these cases.

    I Think litespeed is best so it controls most of the things and since u have it it controls a lot by default

    CSF for a firewall will do well for you. I would hire out a 3rd party like bxmanagement.com to do the security and such as they have an auto plugin to do all of that stuff and they run it once and you're all good to go ;)

    It is very important to keep your server safe from threats and attacks hence there are various safety measures that you need to take inorder to keep yours and your customer data safe and secure.

    Below is a quick list of things that can help you secure your server:
    1. Encrypted Data Communication: Use scp, ssh, rsync, or sftp for file transfer.An SSL too can add to your data security.
    2. Avoid Using FTP, Telnet, And Root login: Use FTP over SSL for enhanced data security.
    3. Minimize Vulnerability with Minimum Softwares Avoid installing unnecessary softwares to avoid software vulnerabilities.
    4. Different network services on separate servers This will help you to limit the number of other services that can be compromised.
    5. Keep Linux Kernel and Software Updated You must be aware that when maintaining the Linux Servers,it is important to install the latest security patches.
    6. Use of Linux Security Extensions SELinux provides various security policies for Linux kernel.
    7. User Accounts and Strong Password Policy It is important to have a good and strong password policy.
    8. Lock User Accounts After Login Failures This helps in avoiding hacks and unauthorised persons accessing your servers.
    9. Disable root Login As far as possible avoid logging into the server as a root user.
