Hey, I am planning on starting a small web hosting business. It will be for shared hosting only, and it will be affordable prices and quality hosting. I have been looking at web hosting complanies, and I have been looking through resources for a long time now. Best to have the knowledge before, starting a business.

Anyways I would like to offer shared hosting, however I would like your guys and gals in take on what I should start with. I have my knowledge, and I thought I would ask before I start doing anything. I would like to provide a good amount of webspace, and bandwidth. I would also like it to have cpanel 11, and have all main hosting features etc.

    Thanks,
    BlueEew.

Not bad idea. However the big hosting companies already have low prices - so it does not makes sense. However you can combine web design, domain name and hosting and provide a cheaper overall price to non geek customers.

I have a small web hosting business myself. It's not a huge amount of money just low $XXXX/yr. It covers my expenses and I pay for my trips. I don't compete online. There is no way to stand out.

Locally I offer great rates, service and features. My clients are other web designers who don't want to get into hosting. My rates for hosting, domain registrations and secure certs are the cheapest in town Forget global and think local. Once you look at the competition you can figure out what to charge and what features to offer.

I also run a small hosting business, doesn't make that much money, it covers costs and allows me to host my own sites, and clients sites cheaply.

    Its a very competitive market.

Running a web hosting is actually a work and a real business, unlike running a blog or website to make money online. It requires fast support answers (and not for the first two months only), it requires qualified staff to respond to tickets and administer the server.

The return can be small or big, depends on the quality you will be able to offer to your customers and the marketing strategy you will be using.

To be honest origonally I wanted to earn loads from this idea, but now I have come to doing it and I know I could set it up and earn. I don't want to earn, well I do but not much.

Basically I want to offer a good service, which is cheap, great support. Not to make loads of money and over sell. Depending on from there is if I decide to make it more money earning.

However to start I want to offer a service, that will help others rather then make me money. What would be the best way to start? Getting a reseller?

yep, a reseller plan is a great option! Its small overheads and teaches you how to manage and look after clients and web servers.

The hosting market is not saturated at all. Consider this: Over 74,000 domains are registered everyday. Thats 74,000 people needing hosting for their domain names, and there is a good chance your company may be their choice. Good luck!

True, but there are thousands of web hosting companies out there also and the majority of domains registered goes to a handful of hosting companies.
