Im thinking about getting into the web hosting business. I know people say its "saturated" but i feel i can get through the tough stage at the start and turn out to do quite well. Just wanted to know a few things... 1) I'm from the UK, should I sell hosting in £ or $. Which would be more profitable? (bearing in mind the currency rates atm) 2) Is it OK to start on a reseller account or should i jump and get a VPS? 3) With dedication, time and patience, will it be easy enough to turn over $300/month including the cost of the reseller/vps. Cheers.
Make transactions in a stable currency. For the first time you can try a reseller account and eventually you can move in to VPS. then about making money, all it depends you and your company marketing strategies.
Okie, thanks. Both ideally. Was going to get a .com and a .co.uk However the .com, would be in $ and the co.uk in £. I could do the currency rate conversation however the currency is always changing!
it is very hard to get on top of the hosting chain with the large hosts such as justhost and uk2 both large in the UK But would advice you use both currencys
Why not set up a website where you can switch currencies, much like godaddy? Then you'd only need to setup one website and wouldn't have all the hassle of managing two. Also, I'd definately start with reseller hosting. VPSs aren't cheap, and if your company doesn't kick off then you're out of pocket by quite a bit. Good luck.
Set yourself to be getting out of the "dollars" if you can. I dont know what the replacement will be for the dollar, but I know the local economy it is based on (USA) is unsustainable. As far as you doing webhosting work, the world is constantly looking for new ideas for technology. Use your creativity to start something new, but make sure those it is meant for are tech-savvy. I will give you a hint - start up something that would fit with the mobile market and the younger generation.
No,webhosting industry is still have a lot more of room to improve. And recently there is a huge demand for offshore webhosting. 1.Its depend on which country you targeting. If your client is from UK then go ahead using GBP 2.No its a big mistake to avoid by starting using a reseller plan. And nowday consumer is smart enough to know whether you are under reseller or your own vps.Always start with vps 3.Yes its easy to earn that and maybe more than that if you put your effort into it.
I'll second what folks are saying about letting the visitor choose from multiple currencies. It doesn't really matter where you target market as long as you are specific. Be sure to setup in a strong data center, I'm finding some UK data centers strong for both US and UK traffic, while some in the states only serve US well. My mindset is that if you can sell hosting affiliate or resale accounts then you'll be able to grow your own business. It's a safe way to test, however, you may not be able to move those customers later without first capturing their contact information. Best, Justin
I would recommend you stay on a local level to begin with. Go with a new business. Make them the website, provide the hosting, etc. This is good income... If you spread yourself out you will only get scammers.
