I am looking for a second (backup-reserve) webhost. The plan is to copy a .tar.gz of public_html at least to the other host so that if host #1 ever disappears for any reason I can be backup within a day or two by changing the nameservers (domains registered with online access to nameserver at seperate company) and expanding the backup .tar.gz on host #2. I therefore would like host #2 to be as similar as possible to host #1. I.e. same versions linux, apache, php, mysql, drupal, cpanel etc. Also need to allow hosting of exes of 5M (some of my sites are software), ftp of .tar.gz up to 400M Quite a lot of disk space (2G at least 4G or more would be better) but not much bandwidth I guess although I could conceivably put a site on host #2 to make use of the bandwidth I have to pay for anyway. Say bandwidth 5G or less if the plan is cheaper. Obviously I need no "upgrade-encouragement" restrictions - ie. unlimited domains, subdomains, emails, etc. - all the things that are restricted artificially no cost at wholesale should be unrestricted - unlimited. Would be inclined to reject all offers of unlimited space-BW or amounts at less than cost price (see http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?t=502546) and would prefer to see a list with those pre-rejected. Also don't want a provider that insists on a domain registration with them. 1. Does anyonne have a recommendation that does as much of that as possible. Absolute Minimum is linux-apache-cpanel-php-mysql. No artifical restrictions. 2G + disk space, 5G + BW. Allow multiple add-on domains (1x cpanel is fine). [Maybe drupal] 2. Is there a list where I can see at a glance most of that (cpanle, php, mysql versions, no requirement for domain registration, etc) Also where I could see some of my other criteria for selection amongst providers who do all that would be: reliability - how long exist - where (country) are servers physically - where (country) is company based - possible to pay with paypal or bank transfer within eurozone. Have spent most of the morning looking and not really got a conclusion other than to define more clearly what I want. So any suggestions would be helpful. And if any of you guys with lists would care to make a more complete list with some of this stuff on it, well I would love it and maybe you'd do well from it too.
Well I'll toot my horn with Hawk Host But some others that I believe offer a reliable product Host Gator Dream Host I'd say most of your requirements though almost all hosts will meet. Very few these days require you register a domain with them. Along with that most do not have restrictions on the number of addon domains either. So I'd say your only real issue is finding one you believe to reliable. And well this takes research by simply looking for reviews on sites such as www.webhostingtalk.com Well best of luck with your search for a back up provider.
Let me try a simpler question. There are lots of web host lists. A number of guys on here have their own site with a list. Any site have a list of hosts with: Host, bandwidth, disk space, price, PAYMENT METHODS AVAILABLE, WHERE ARE SERVERS, WHERE IS HOSTING CO
I vote for my host www.webhosting.uk.com reliable, affordable and available round the clock. cPanel-PHP-MYSQL- 5GB diskspace- 50GB bandwidth
