Web Host & Domains?

This is the first time i'am going for a paid domain, because of internet marketing. I don't need so much from my host so maybe i am going to use a free one, or maybe a paid one. But how do domain & host work together? In domains like .tk where we are simply redirected to our host, how it works for other domains like .com or .net e.t.c

you buy a domain. you set the domain's nameservers up through your registrar. the nameservers (say, ns1.yoursite.com) point to an IP address, which directs users to the server. the server interprets which domain was requested, which is how your visitors reach your site.

ns1.yoursite.com would be if you're running your own nameservers.

if you're going with shared hosting ask them what nameservers to use.

When you sign up for hosting they will provide you with the nameserver name.

You will go to where you bought the domain and enter the information.

Eaxactly like me giving you my phone number and you entering it into your address book.

Save yourself a lot of misery. Do not buy the domain from the hosting company. Use one of the better know registars.

For examples theres a link to another page ( also uploaded on my host ) at my index page then when a user points over it, what will be displayed at the status bar? My point is, i wanna display mydomain.com/other-page.html instead of mymemberid.myhostingprovider.com/other-page.html .. How does that part works?

With a paid hosting plan, your own domain and writing your own html instead of using some sitebuilder type software any links would appear as yourdomain.com/filename.ext

You are seeing the member id because your site is currently considered a subdomain.

I won't be using any sitebuilder kind of links but what would be the difference between a paid hosting & a free one which will or will not allow me to avoid subdomain links?

    What a paid plan has:

    MySql
    FTP Access
    GBs of disk space
More freedom with what you put on your site.
    No Ads
Your own domain, not a subdomain.
    All that and more

    Free:
    subdomain (yourpage.myfreehost.com)
    Site Builder
    About 10 - 20MB diskspace
Host can delete site for little reason
    Some html

There may not be any difference if you own your own domain. Some of the free hosts are set up excatly like a paid hosting account. If it is free you can cetainly try it and see.

The first big step is to buy your own domain.

Ok just bought the domain, during the registeration there was a DNS server field with an example link written in it, i've left it the way it was but i'll edit it through the control panel later.

Now which free ( preferably without ads ) web host will allow me to display my web links through my domain URL and not through my web host domain ( mydomain.com/my-link.html Not membersid.hostingservice.com/my-link.html ) ..

    :)

Here read till your eyes water:

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=free++hosting++cpanel&btnG=Google+Search

Search term was free +hosting +cPanel

While you are looking you might as well look for one that has php enable.

You can buy ad free, php cpanel hosting for as little as $1 per month if you prefer to go that route. I actaully know of one that will let you host more than one doamain for a buck a month. You don't get a ton of space or bw but it is enough to test and play.

Ok i went at 00freehost.com and modified my name servers to theirs and then signed up for the hosting, after the process it displayed that my website has been created and i can go there through mydomainlink.com, but when i opened my domain i still receive this error 'The Web site you are looking for is unavailable due to its identification configuration settings.'

    I'am lost again, any hints?

Maybe a free host you've tried already would help, which have instant activation. A-Host.info is still reviewing my application so its getting messy when i've just began to start working with domains..

I think ns is still not updated on your end as it takes 24-48 hours to be updated on all zones..

My previous name servers were set for freewebtown.com, and 00freehost.com was'nt allowing me to continue registeration for my domain with those name servers set for it. So i modified those and after 5 min it accepted my host name. So shall i still wait?
