Web host breaking the TOS ! Google doesn't care?

Discussion in 'Guidelines / Compliance' started by crizatu, Sep 18, 2005.

About 1 month ago I noticed all websites that are hosted for free on a web host display adsense ads in a layer flying over the website. They do attract user attention to the ads, and the problem is the layer is hard to close and the user may end up clicking the ad. They are displaying the ads on all websites hosted by them without checking the content to see if the content is legit.
I don't think this is allowed by the TOS.

I have reported them to adsense about 3 weeks ago but no answer :(

    Example url-s: www.webbox.as.ro , www.wallpapers.as.ro

    Google doesn't care?

Obviously the one that floats right in the middle of the screen. It will be interpreted by G! as the webmaster forcing the visitor to click...and this is exactly what it's supposed to do :p.

Google could be more lenient on the top floating ad, however, i think that they will simply give a warning on this tactic.

I don't think a webhost will be so stupid to make such ads appear on all members site. G! will prosecute such actions and not just disable their account. A hosting service with, let's say 1000 members could generate hundreds of thousands of $$$ a day using such tactics. It's just an individual site.

    is it free hosting?

do the people agree to allow ads in exchange for hosting?

There is a pretty obvious "x" to close the window

unless its agaisnt the tos to adsense in a pop up ad, then i think they are in the clear.

Has anyone received a clear answer as to whether these layered/popin ads are against the TOS? I would assume so as they would open in a new window which I believe is against the tos.

everyone lets get are power rangers google police helmet and suit on and go arrest these guys.

Google can do there own job.
The advertisers can block the site.

Why dont you care about any ohter ppc other then google , is it because they dont pay well or because your just not using them.
Becuase why stop at google you should report every site ypu feel is abusive and report every single site doing something not to your liking using any ppc or banner program, dont just stop at adsense. Then we can create a polic for ppc abuse and give out badges with little flash lights that spew out red and white light. If a few of you would spend the same amount of time looking for bad sites and reporting them on making your own sites better you might increase your earnings.

badkolo, i don't want to be mean so i promise i won't swear on this one and make it short.

I use adwords as my primary advertising medium hence i won't like seeing my ads been clicked like hell by some bunch of fu...ehm...uninterested people or people who are being forced to click just because they have no other option than either leaving the page of those sites or clicking on those ads.

And your absolutly correct, but you can see who is doing this, you can see where your ads are being displayed. you can see where the clicks are coming from cant you. In adwrods you can block where you want you ads displayed, if this is the case then you can control this and not everyone needs to be a police just the advertiser. Im not being ignorant or trying to stir anything at all, but sometimes and just sometimes people here go ape nuts when they see something they dont like then come here to show others to get them on there same train of thought and then the posts start"im emailing google and reporting these people"" it gets rediculous, thats all. Especially after another site a thread was on obviously had ypn and adsnese ads on same site and people went nuts saying how is this I am emailing google on tthis site and then it came to past that the site is so big that they can do as they like.

Adsense is past 2 years so if they havent set fourth a police group who searches dilingtly everyday for sites that dont obey tos(they do not do this everyday dilingtly). Then why should everyone else.

Well lol...that's a funny one. Of course there're gonna get blocked. But what happens to others that didn't get the chance to check their adword accounts for a few days? Bad Luck?

think global and about others sometimes please.

Thats the price you pay. I use adwords as well and thats the price you pay. .You dont just make a big budget and look in everyweek and then be surprised that you got burnt. I check my adsense and adwords account diligntly. Like i said you can block these people so why the constant police. Check your account daily and then block and then you wont have a problem.

""But what happens to others that didn't get the chance to check their adword accounts for a few days?"" so then what make a police for these poor people who didnt do there job and check there account, cmon now.

Thats there responsibility. No one says to put a big budget out there and not watch it and then complain later that you got burnt. This is a business so its no ones fault but your own if YOU DO NOT CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT Daily. You dont show up to your real job twice a week DO YOU?.
