    Hello everyone!

I am working to compile a web survey to help the web directory community and help outsiders to get some insights.

I will highly appreciated your help to contribute with us here, to compile a set of 10-20 most targeted questions web directories.

Here are some suggestions I consider to use:
    - if the directory submissions still carry any SEO value
    - PRO and CONS of paid directories (paid to review, not link sales)
    - PRO and CONS of free directories
    - what makes a good general web directory
    - niche web directories (PRO and CONS)
    - top 10 best free directories
    - top 10 best paid (to review) directories
    - what could be the future of this industry
    - best practices in web directories (paid and free)
    - hall of shame (quick buck crew guys) (TBD)
    - best TLD for a directory (.com/.net/.org)
    - most wanted directory features (deep links, RSS, site of the day, etc.)

I will share this survey once compiled with everyone from this community, also more than 250 SEM agencies will be invited to share their feedback.

For directory owners will be provided a ribbon to display on their directories and ask feedback from their visitors too.

Final results will be shared in PowerPoint, PDF and Slideshare.com presentation formats, this survey will not collect any personal informations such as names or email address, there will be some open text forms where everyone can suggest or vote for their favorite web directory.

Looking for your suggestions, I am open to discuss everything about this survey.

You need to read up on this a bit more before going ahead with anything, heres why:

Here are some suggestions I consider to use:
    - if the directory submissions still carry any SEO value
    - PRO and CONS of paid directories (paid to review, not link sales) Doesn't work like that
    - PRO and CONS of free directories Same as above
    - what makes a good general web directory Not easy to answer
    - niche web directories (PRO and CONS) Does the niche want to use one.
    - top 10 best free directories Seriously, these toip 10's of everything do people no favours
    - top 10 best paid (to review) directories Clearly people are going to recommend their friends dirs in return for the same favour.
    - what could be the future of this industry Lets wait and see huh?, ask google
    - best practices in web directories (paid and free)
    - hall of shame (quick buck crew guys) (TBD) Forget them
    - best TLD for a directory (.com/.net/.org) A joke?
    - most wanted directory features (deep links, RSS, site of the day, etc.) There never have been most wanted features on directories like these mentioned.

If web directory owners cant do it, then what makes you think that you can?

Who do you work for? You seem too eager to help the directory community.

Why not research what has already been said on all of those topics in countless threads on this board?

@pipes: Thank you for your suggestions! I got this idea and I decided to go for it. I am self-employed and I am not working for any company in this niche.

I use web directories for personal projects and I am interested to get some insights from one of the largest communities about web directories.

I know that if I'll go to make some research (in depth) I might find enough information here on DP. I was thinking to go with a survey just because I would like to bring some fresh insights and I thought that asking some professionals in this field will be good for some guidance.

Concerning some things I said above was only some ideas to start with, I am not trying to promote any directories and I would like to work closer with anyone from this community to create a set of questions without to link or create a connection with a particular web directory.

I was also thinking from the perspective of submitters and wanted to give them a chance to have their say, like me (I also use directories to lists some of my personal projects) I am not always able to keep a track of what is new about directories because this is more like a small percent of what I do for living. I run a small web marketing agency and most of the projects I work on are outsourced to me from other local marketing agencies.

I would like to mention (again) that by doing this survey I do not have any intentions to promote a particular directory or a directory owner out there.

    @Thanks Nima and YMC!
