hi guys, i'm trying to find a template or some sort of script in order to setup a small web directory site. ** I'm on a windows web hosted package *** Requirements would be just 6 or so drop down menu's for the selection or company type, sector etc. and a few fields to enter name, url etc. Nothing fancy required and would probably never be required to hold the info of more than 50-100 companies. ( its not to build so sort of dodgy link farm !! ) I was under the impression that it was a fairly standard setup to re-create. However i had the above q posted on the sitepoint forum and although 200+ views , i never recieved a single relpy to the q. Hoping someone from this forum can point me in the right direction. thanks max
Are you wanting advice on how to do it yourself? We'll need to know which directory script you are using
tuchme ...... yes ofcourse I have already searched for "free web directory". But that just brings up existing web directory sites that i can sign up too. This is obviously not what i want to do. Hi Sarah. Yes , i would like to build a site for myself. The problem i have is any investigation seems to come to a halt because of the fact i'm hosting on windows. So basically i need some guidance on what i need to do to build a dir site. I was hoping in this age of not having to reinvent the wheel that there would be free templates or something that i could utilise and just tweak ... ( * windows hosted * ) any idea's ? thanks max
It seems phpLD might do the trick https://www.google.co.nz/webhp?q=link+directory+script+for+windows If your hosting is causing such problems perhaps it is time to consider moving hosts? Windows hosting is normally more expensive than Linux anyway. I'd advise against writing your own... security is such a big issue that unless you are really good you'll put alot of effort into recreating the wheel and come up short.
Hi sarah, thats exactly what i'm looking for. have narrowed it down to esyndicat or phpld. the former looks a little more slick and appears to be the stronger contender. Hopefully i will be able to get the php and mysql running on my windows host srv ( tied in for another 9 months on windows hosting , but i take your point ). thanks again for your help. max
