Hi Guys, I wonder if Web Directories are doing good on 2020? Btw, I want to know if there are still any Good PHP web directory script like PHPLinkDirectory, cheaper, powerful and Support PHP7.* Regard/
I wouldn't bother unless you can write a solid business plan that justifies the time and effort involved.
I'm able to I have a directory - it lists about 12 businesses and doesn't take submissions. It promotes business #13. I'd need a really solid business plan before I created another. I can't think of any good reason to create one, so I won't. What's your plan?
I agree with sarahk Directory business was profitable in 2010 because of google PR. Now google has stopped displaying PR publically, and has also stopped giving importance to links from directories, as a result directory business is also dead. This is the reason why PHPLD type directory scripts stopped further development of the script. A plain directory script is barely of any use now. However, I have coded a mini social network script for myself, which has an inbuilt directory system. The directory submissions can be used as "ads" on the website's content pages, and also as a "listing" in the directory section. Gives more visibility to people who submitted their website to the directory. I plan to give this script away for free, and am almost done completing it. Was adding plugin functionality so that people using it can modify the display without having to edit the main basic code. I am running the script on almost all my websites now, except one or two. You can see a demo here: https://500healthy.com/ No plugins loaded https://www.iAmRobos.com/ Stock market plugin loaded This also has one directory listing added, displayed on homepage. Scroll down (middle of webpage) to the section "Top Matching Websites", listing is just below that. That same listing will also appear on every article where tag #StockMarketNEWS is used, kind of like an advertisement on the post. This can be a paid listing, based on bid. Higher bid advertisers get preference when selecting listing to display as advertisement. Script itself has many customizable functions in admin panel, using which you can activate/deactivate comments/signatures and other user permissions, select themes, define minimum bid or keep listings free, use PPC or PPV advertisement system etc. Lot of settings are there to customize the website. You can even setup one single database, upload script to different domains, connecting to the same one database, and still make each website function differently, and even show different content. 2 or more "completely" different websites, powered by same database, and showing completely different content. Makes switching hosting very easy! And of course you can setup separate databases if you want, no problem. You can use the basic script itself as a blog with just you having posting ability, or as blog with all admins having posting ability, or as a mini social network/forum with every member having posting ability, totally your choice. The script works with PHP7 and even with older PHP versions. Testing is complete I think, have been testing and running the script for about 3 months now on different domains. I will make the download available very soon: Not able to decide if I should add this script as a subsection of an existing website, or give it a separate domain of its own with support forum and everything...
@suwandichen13 Give this a try: https://13pp.co.uk/post/PowerPressApp/ Its a web directory which lists submitted URLS on directory pages, and also under your posts as advertisements. You can sell PPV or PPC type submissions, or keep it free, or mix it up, your choice.
@JEET Its looking good and lite ..... I am trying to test it on my new website but when downloading setup, Install folder or file is not there as described in Instruction. Can you help me to get all files to setup on one of my new website for blog.
Install URL is a .htaccess URL. The file which does the installation is in the "code" directory. Install URL calls that file. If .htaccess file is uploaded, and .htaccess rule work, then open the URL: your-domain.com/install/ and you should see the installation window.
Maybe for niche sites? Not a general directory. Niche topic, but you'd need to achieve great rankings for it, to be attractive for businesses in that specific niche.
sometimes, when Wordpress updating their script, some plugins or template we currently use stop working, that's why I start to see other standalone web directory script..haha. Thanks for the reply, I will take a loon and see if that fits with my taste, regard. thanks for the explanation, Maybe I should come with concrete plans to save everyone time. ^.^
That's true, you should own a backup copy, where you can do upgrades and test, before doing upgrades on the live site.
meh, it's ok. The moderation tools are non-existent and that's not ok in this day and age. Filtering spam is a nightmare and this script doesn't help. The source code looks like they're using a framework for layout with a limited understanding of how CSS should be structured.
