well yeah a link is a link right. Dofollow or not. But you have to check to see if the Directory has any page rank or if it has been identified as a link farm and had its page rank stripped
Web directories are near to link farms. So avoid auto approving directories. Because auto approving directories has no editorial value. Any spammy and scammy websites can list there. If you got links from link farm then you might be in trouble. So go for good pr directories that requires approval. But yes links from directories are generally not high quality links, unless you are listed in dmoz or yahoo.
Yes i think ur rite i have seen many directories just are filled with links i am sure such a directory wont be of any use
Any link is good, however I wouldn't waste time with directories. Submitting to directories is outdated. There is much better methods to build backlinks.
You should choose human editied directories and then use them sparingly. Don't base you whole linking campaign around directory submission.
