I have my web directory running for more than a year.
I just came with idea to increase number of directory listings. More listings - more visitors -> and this is what I assume every web directory owner is looking for.
The idea is very simple to share submitted listings with partner directories. Of course users, submitting their URLs will be notified that his URL will be automatically submitted in partners web directories. I'm sure majority will like it as this is what they are looking for and will be getting it for less work and time.
I prefer doing such business that way, than asking to add my web directory to some automatic application submitter. I'm sure that way we will get less spam.

If someone finds this interesting, please contact me.
    My directory is: http://www.trustdir.org/

Of course your comments are welcome if you think this is not a good idea.

First, your idea is beyond stupid. All that will do is insure that whatever directories are a part of your "club" will all have massive amounts of duplicate content. And it won't stop spam. In fact, if you think about this for longer than ten seconds, you will realize that this would be a spammer's dream!

Second, your directory has some errors needing to be corrected. The following is from your directory homepage:

Is that even English? I can understand that English is probably not your primary language, but you should really get a native English speaker to proof read the stuff you write.

From my honest opinion, i would suggest you hire someone/do it yourself to create listings for your web directories.
PM me if you need any help.

If you think your directories are not duplicate, think yourself a little bit. 90% are duplicate.
Most of the website owners submitting their websites to multiples directories or suing automated programs doing that. If you really think your directories are unique, well, leave in that illusion.
I took randomly first directory from the answers above and took first it's listing, and google it:
"PPS is a Malaysian blog aggregator which contains a collection of blog trackbacks from the diverse population of the local "
and I got 6 pages in google from different directories: http://www.google.com/webhp?sourcei...the+local+"&aq=f&aqi=&oq=&fp=a50ffc77dda4c0bc

Wake up, you not unique, what makes you different is just different design.

And EveryQuery, thanks for calling stupid idea and bringing to my attention my English, it is very nice and professional way of giving your feedback, but your 2 directories are 100% duplicate! So what you are doing with 2 of your "directories" which are 100% copy of each other. And of course each of your listing will be found on many other web directories.

I don't think I should dig too deep here, majority of our content is duplicate. And this is normal from the nature of the web directory. If you think people who listed in your directory choose only your directory, then keep leaving in that illusion.

I'm talking about partnership, which makes small websites bigger and powerful.

    Flat out wrong.

First, those using automated submitters better be using an automated paypal account for premium directories. Some directory owners/editors actually re-write descriptions to reduce duplicate content. I took it a step further. I use two descriptions - one for the category and one for the listing detail page (both are re-written). Twice the work for an editor but well worth it if the intent is creating a better resource.

    Edit:

Now that I look at your directory, I see you have very few listings. It could be the result of your submission form not working (I tested it and it did fail). Also, you require the submitters E-mail address to match the domain. Some directory owners do this to reduce spam, but many submitters will not use an E-mail that matches their domain so they don't get spammed to death.

I could send you some traffic if your directory accepts free submissions, but your submission form needs cleaned up first. PM me if you drop the E-mail requirement and fix the "URL must start with http://www. No subdomains are allowed" error when a site without a sub domain is submitted. I suspect you are limiting the number of characters in a domain, but I could be wrong. Either way, submitters have to jump through a number of hoops to get a submission into your directory. Make it easier for people to submit, and you may get more submissions. If it's spam your concerned about, click the delete button on submissions that violate your guidelines. But without guidelines posted, its hard to tell.

Thanks snowbird. Your input is actually helpful. I think my submission rules are too strict for a new/small directory.
I removed some restrictions on URL and on email.
Yes, my website is totally free and reciprocal URL is optional.

Illusion? Far from it. If my listings are duplicated elsewhere, then they have been plagiarised.

Why would I think that a directory I own was their only choice? I don't care what is submitted elsewhere or how it is listed - I know the listing I publish will not be what you're likely to find elsewhere.

It's not going to work, duplicate content is one issue and the other is, what if one of your partners does not approve of a listing. If the customer has paid for a listing they will not be receiving what they were promised.

OK. I just visited your directory. The text block under your search box contains infolinks...making your directory look like a crazy-for-monetization article directory. Do you really think a serious business owner would be interested in doing business with you after seeing that? Even your submit page contains infolinks...

Do you own any article directory?
