Hello... I see that SEO will now be taken into another realm for us as google has made many new and different changes including their NEW updated Guildlines and algo changes to include video and images... http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35769 Highlights... Google's basically telling users - and its competitors - that it has figured out how to identify the type of search query entered and provide a single set of results that it is confident will include all the information you could possibly want. While we've seen Google dip its toe in the water of predictive search - showing us images or stock prices - this overhaul of the search results page completely changes the way everyone interacts with Google. Users will benefit, as they'll likely find Google's search results to be much more relevant, meanwhile search engine optimizers will find that their job has become a lot more complex. Now, instead of focusing on web search and battling others for one of the coveted Top 10 spots for a particular search term, they're going to find the Top 10 now includes results drawn from other indexes such as images, news and video. SEO's will be faced with two choices. Stick with just web search, and be content that they may only have 5-6 opportunities to be in the Top 10 on Google, or, look at ways to optimize content such as photos, videos, news items, and use a broader approach to gaining page one exposure. http://www.searchnewz.com/topstory/...eIntroducesMajorInterfaceAlgorithmUpdate.html Quality guidelines - specific guidelines * Avoid hidden text or hidden links. * Don't use cloaking or sneaky redirects. * Don't send automated queries to Google. * Don't load pages with irrelevant keywords. * Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content. * Don't create pages that install viruses, trojans, or other badware. * Avoid "doorway" pages created just for search engines, or other "cookie cutter" approaches such as affiliate programs with little or no original content. * If your site participates in an affiliate program, make sure that your site adds value. Provide unique and relevant content that gives users a reason to visit your site first. If a site doesn't meet our quality guidelines, it may be blocked from the index. If you determine that your site doesn't meet these guidelines, you can modify your site so that it does and then submit your site for reinclusion. But thier is still light at the end of the tunnel..... Submit your site to relevant directories such as the Open Directory Project and Yahoo!, as well as to other industry-specific expert sites. Your thoughts on this and what mods can be made to enhance the NEW flavors offered by googles ever changing ways.. thx malcolm
Thanks Malcolm have been reading a lot of new info just lately on these same points Very helpful Thanks again
I have noticed some serious traffic coming on some of my blogs from google images, so this is good news. As it related to directory owners it is nice to see them mention 'relevant directories' that is a good sign in my opinion.
@britishguy Thanks Pete.. I think that the web directory will have to play many different rolls as well ..... that being inclusion of video, News and Pics and such... pretty much. But honestly SEO is more challenging to any directory. I think I will just focus on content via blog. You can put video clip, photos and stuff
Yup google images is really helping me out too at www.h-log.com i only recently though put lots of images there. But seems to be working towards getting traffic.
I think the image results on page 1 have been around for a while.. Just think out of the box, and i'm sure you'll do fine
Agree with Terry- . Genine and experienced SEO specialists will have no problem. But so-called SEO pretenders will be out of Job.
Lol Yep I think with some markets, getting good SERPs the normal way will still be OK. E.g. web directories i would imagine would stay the same, as who wants to see pictures/videos of a web directory? But i think it depends on your business and market, so if you need to get traffic as you are using a CPM/CPC network for example you will need to think hard for what you are going to do to meet with these changes. But if you are there to sell a product or service, I don't things will be too different. Just my thoughts.
I think you have raised some very relevant and valid points Terry and of course in many respects I think you will be about right But I personally believe the number of services within a directory will broaden from what are the recognized standard directory services But the CPM/CPC option is sophisticated and a lot of time is needed to set up and monitor to get a workable ROI But I know pictures will come into directories and know where they will come from and I could even name the directories that will display them But for sure as you said they will not be pictures of Directories
Un-targeted traffic will result in nothing more than better numbers on your stats pages and will rarely generate submissions. Traffic from Google images has to be some of the worst in regards of converting especially for directories, image hounds aren't normally looking to submit to web directories.
It is easy to create I think so I can create a niche directory for a particular keyword in minutes with top 100 links!
This is weird, so directory is created so that we get lots of submissions? Weird i always ran a directory thinking it will provide users some information and some link to website they could not find on google. But anyways i guess i was thinking wrong about running a directory, should i now concentrate on only getting submissions and not providing some information how small may it be to visitors?
So we run them for image hogs as more times than not the images that brought them to your site have nothing to do with the sites you have listed which means they have no intention of clicking through?
