Is there some sort of insurance available for web developers? For if I make a mistake in developing a site that allows it to be hacked and the client sues me...that sort of thing...??

    Thanks!

dont quote me on this but if you put a disclamer on the site and make the customer agree to it before purchasing anything you should be fine

You can get a general liability policy that would cover it.

When I owned an alarm company I keep an "Errors and Omission" policy. Sounds like this would be something similar. General liability would probably not cover this.

I would think that stating it(we do our best but hacking happens) in your written contract should be fine. If we could be held accountable for the malicious acts of someone else I would assume Microsoft would be out of business with all the lawsuits that would be against them.

Just deal with these issues in your contract before you agree to do the work. It will be more effective and substantially cheaper than insurance.
