I actally find sitepoint very disappionting becuase for example say you are going to sell a site that you have put effort and hard work and most of all time into they charge you $20.00 flat rate to open a action i just find this completely wrong in my eyes. Dont you all agree that this is abit much $20 to sell a site you put all that effort into its shocking that people actallylist $1 acutions on there site im actally shocked that they even get a visitor how there abuse there users like that!
I'm a Mentor over at SitePoint so I'm going to have to be *very* careful with what I'm about to say (excuse me a moment while I bite my tongue). While I understand and appreciate how you don't want to have to pay to post a listing, you have to understand that the Marketplace over at SitePoint is just that - a marketplace. And in the best interests of keeping the marketplace free of clutter (and by this I mean scammers and con artists, not people who really have a genuine Web site they wish to sell - remember, SitePoint works very hard to look out for your interests), they have to charge a small listing fee (which is actually much less than many of the auction sites as well). I do agree that if you put a lot of effort into creating a Web site that you want to sell for a profit that you should get what you believe it is worth. If you normally charge a client $50/hour to develop a site and you spent 20 hours making a site for sale, and post the listing online, you should be able to get the $1,000 (at least) for the amount of time you put into developing it (and that's just labor, I'm not even going to include the cost of materials such as photography and the like). If you're really worried about the $20 that you're spending to post the listing on the SitePoint Marketplace, why not pass the cost along to the buyer (I'm not associated with the Marketplace - as I'm on the Design Team, so I don't know if it's permitted or not, but I can find out for you if you like)? Furthermore, if you don't mind me asking, how often do you see people posting $1.00 bids on auctions, do you see the same people doing it over and over and over again, and when do you see it happen? SitePoint is working on making massive changes to the Marketplace (in fact, i think they're re-coding it from the ground up), so if you have any ideas for changes you'd like to see made to the Marketplace, don't hesitate to speak up. Tell them what you want, and I'm sure they'll look at implementing the changes if they can do it. The changes won't be incorporated into the current version of the Marketplace (unless there's a pressing need to do so), but could find their way into the new version. All you have to do is tell them. As for the people who are posting one dollar bids to auctions, please send me a PM over at SitePoint and I'll forward them to the people responsible for the day-to-day management of the Marketplace for you (my username there is the same as it is here, even the avatar is the same).
