Hi, Can anyone advise a complete beginner (marketing background) where to start with learning web design? Should I just try to learn dreamweaver as a starting point? I want to learn to build sites that are search engine friendly, easy to navigate, with good accessibility/usability (don't we all, I guess!) Any good resources I should check out?
XHTML and CSS There are alot more points you should learn such as: Photoshop, and maybe a bit on web development (Dynamic sites and databasing). Feel free to PM me if you have any questions on anything
you really dont need to know much. If you feel like doing EVERYTHING your self that might not be as fun. Think of a website as a house and your going to need contractors to do each job. Invest some money and you will come out with something a little better than doing it all your self!
good point.... You cant be the best at everything youself so get some with skills to do some of the stuff...
Learn the basics of HTML. Then try to learn photoshop for your graphics. Start from there. There are a lot of tutorial sites lying around.
Even if he doesn't know much about the process he should firmiliarize himself with it. Even if it's the utter basics... this way he knows if he's getting ripped off
Learn HTML & CSS from w3schools, then learn to use Photoshop so as to come up with cool designs. Good luck and have fun learning.
Start with HTML (Use Dreamweaver or notepad.) Then learn some graphics...maybe Photoshop, so that you can add images to your sites. Next try CSS. You should also get yourself a hosting account (try to get one from a reseller). If you also host your pages, you will get a better idea about how pages actually behave on the internet.
You can always search the net for html tutorial then try to apply it using the Dreamweaver, Frontpage or simply a notepad. Then, you can insert your graphics or pictures which can be edited in Photoshop.
This is a good website to get started on: webdesignfromscratch.com Also, htmlgoodies.com was very helpful when I was getting started with HTML, but that was years ago so I don't know how good the site is anymore. And as I-Got-IT! mentioned above, w3schools.com is also a very good resource for learning a lot of the web languages.
I recommend learning the fundamentals in web in w3schools . com. Or: Type these keywords in Google: Web design tutorials Photoshop tutorials HTML tutorials CSS tutorials These may help you learn web design in a flash
Use a basic tutorial and play around with dreamweaver. Take a class if your that type of learner or if you wanna make things easier on yourself. Most of all JUST DO IT
i suggest you learn photoshop or any graphics manipulating programs and then go learn codings using dreamweaver or any html editor
