I think design is unique kind of work which imposible educate by book. It is really only analyse done good sites.
Wanting to cover various groups is understandable, and there is certainly nothing wrong with starting from the beginnind and moving slowly, but there is still no substitute for doing the job correctly. Should we allow poor drivers to ignore the rules of the road because not everyone is car-savvy? Should math students be allowed to ignore the rules for order of precedence to make their numbers add up? You can try to make the subject as clear as possible, but at some point the student must accept the responsibility of learning. lissaexplains.com, for instance, teaches out-of-date and, in some cases, blatantly wrong information. Most of the other tutorials mentioned so far suffer from much the same problem. So unless you're looking for quantity over quality, you need to be highly selective when choosing which tutorials to accept.
I know that all of you are right. We should teach the right way! But believe me, sometimes that isn't possible. Many people have a terrible difficulty just to manage a program like Word. If we think of Frontpage or Dreamweaver, things get worse. If we talk about html, xml, and such, people give up, because it's too much abstract for them. Believe me. 8 years ago I was teaching the basics of computer use to adults. Last year I did that for teenagers. This year I made a programming interactive course. And it's hard to make someone new to computers, to learn computer programming. And some aren't a bit interested in that. That's why I asked for the wysiwyg tutorials, for those who really don't want to code. For the others, I'll try to teach and recommend the right way
Someone in another thread has suggested HTML Dog. I had not known of this site before, but now that I do I highly recommend it.
Have you checked out the tutorial listings on tutorial directories that allow users to rate the tutorials such as: http://www.techtutorials.net/Webmaster/ http://www.techtutorials.info/webmaster.html The ratings systems on these sites may help you find what users think is the best.
There are a couple problems even with those sites. The most obvious and objective problem is that the majority of the listings have little or no rating votes. Another, less obvious problem is that you do not know who has assigned a rating, nor how qualified they are to make an assessment. I have not personally known anyone highly experienced in HTML to search for these rating systems to give their input. Most likely, the people that look for such sites are those wanting to learn HTML and can not recognize if they have been given incomplete or incorrect information. It may seem like I shoot down many suggestions—and in fact I do—but the Web has become so popular that it seems amateur hobbyists greatly outnumber professionals, though I cannot say this for fact. As a result, poor quality tutorials greatly outnumber those of high quality.
www .w3schools.com that really is one of the most useful sites i've found so far. their tutorials are great!
I wonder if there is a good website to teach DESIGN i.e. web DESIGN. This excludes the webpage discuss on PHP or HTML. w3schools is a great source to learn web development but not really on the DESIGN part. Anyone?
You are talking about design concepts, ideas and rules, not paintshop pro or photoshop tutorials, correct? Specific programs tutorials are easy to find, but just about design isn't so easy. I have books about design concepts, but not tutorials.
A List Apart There are many articles available on this site. Categories of articles include code, content, culture, process, user science, and design. Sub topics under design include graphic design, user interface design, typography, and layout.

::shameless plug alert:: take a look at my site (check my signature). I actually just finished writing a new tutorial for an XHTML div-structure-based page. It's long, but I have a feeling you'll like it I've got a few other tutorials in there too, in case you're interested.
