Web Design Help Required

Hello there I am looking at designing my first web site but don't really have an idea where to start.

Are there any good free Tutorial site's etc which I can visit to develop my skill's.

If there is anyone out there that might be able to help me and point me in the right direction please feel free to PM me.

One good way to go about designing your first site is to look at other sites which you like for inspiration. For example, maybe you like the way the yahoo home page looks. Try and study the elements which make it appealing to you, and try and understand what they are doing design-wise which makes it interesting.

Your first site should be html, seeing as how it is the easiest to learn, and helps you build a good base.

 

try w2schools.com - great resource site with a little bit of everything and clear examples

peachpit press does some good html books, too

I have made a couple of pages now but have been struggling to get things where I want them.

For example links under the heading and Pictures in diff places. I am not doing too bad but just wondered if there has been a command I have missed to position things on the page.

 

One more thing how do I go about adding a photo gallery to my site??

Are you using software like Wordpress to make your site, or are you using a WYSIWYG editor like Dreamweaver, or are you coding the HTML manually in a text editor?

 

i say for a first website, make it in wordpress, and learn to modify it first.
that is if u have some idea in html/css.

or else start with html/css, in case of total newbie.
