You might never doubt about power of the web. You have been reading opinions of knowledgeable ones and now there is an opportunity to see professionals talking about potential of the Web 2.0 during two days Mesh Conference, being held in Toronto today and tomorrow.. In their blog organizers admit that one of the most challenging parts in putting together this year’s mesh conference was picking the six presenters for 15 Minutes of Fame. After a lot of discussion, they have come up with their six presenters, who each get five minutes to talk about what their company and their prospects for success. Details of the event can be found here : www.meshconference.com What is potential of Web 2.0 ? How do you see Web 2.0 and yourself as part of it in the future ?
um, wow. Big question. I think a better question is, how do you define web 2.0? Is it simply user-generated content? Social networking? Social media? User control and direction? User empowerment? Ever since Time Magazine voted me person of the year, I've been trying to come to terms with how to best capitalize on the web 2.0 movement and have been less concerned with its philosophical implications. To me, the internet was orginally a user-driven medium with content, site design and media within all made to benefit the user and less so the webmaster. Only with AdSense and the SEO industry booming has the web community needed to make a distinction between a stricktly commericial enterprise and one that was more instrinsic. I mean, let's face it. No major web 2.0 site, from Facebook to Digg, is losing money. However much they clamour to be for the people and benefiting the end user, the CEO is laughing all the way to the bank and can't wait to cash his fat 2.0 cheque. As far as I know, the only non-profit web 2.0 site of any distinction is Wikipedia, and any takers on how long they'll take to cave? As for the Mesh conference, I wish I could've gone! I just heard about this conference a few day ago and though I'm in Mtl, I didn't have enough time to organize a little trip. I like the fact that they've restricted exhibits and speakers - no need to put up with the usual BS that people feed you at these conferences. AHH what a wasted opportunity. Still though the price tag is a bit steep at $400. Maybe next time I'll just skip the panels and go straight to the after-party Today is not a dress rehearsal SearchAnyway PPC Program - searchanyway.com SearchAnyway SEO / SEM Blog - blog.searchanyway.com SearchAnyway Affiliate Forum - forum.searchanyway.com
That is an extremely loaded question. Web 2.0 is the internet on steroids. All the capabilities that technology allows with customization, personalization, and super interaction-ability is what Web 2.0 is. Everything that used to be a one way experience, or one way input can be transformed into what the Web 2.0 wave will bring. All those that miss to realize capitalizing on the Web 2.0 idea will be left to either sink or haplessly play catchup in the future. Those that are usually able to gain that first mover advantage in implementing Web 2.0 concepts in an industry are able to maintain and solidify that market dominance. So the key here is innovate or eventually perish in the high tides of Web 2.0.
