Alright guys .I'm trying to bring Gazotto from just another blog to a better blog. I'm redesigning the site here msmug.com/wordpress, but as you can see the design is a little out bland. I want it to look very web 2.0. I want it to be simple (like not graphics everywhere) because I will have enough images to grab attention. At the same time I want people to go, "Wow nice design." and at least be recognizable. Any ideas? Skinny
I think your blog is looking great! A week or so ago we had a thread about the "Web 2.0" look. Check it out for some ideas. Specifically for your blog, maybe your headings could be larger.
Looks great man! And yeah, make the headings bigger for each new post. I sort of looked messy and hard to distinguish when I first looked on the page. But if you make those headings bigger it will certainly help!
Hi Skinny !! The blog looks great. But you may think of changing the navigation buttons Home, About, Contact... Also use of some cute icons may further improve it. Best wishes !! Prashant
Aha! You've adjusted the logo! That makes a difference. I wasn't completely sold on the new one before but now you've added the reflected text, I like it a lot. www.msmug.com/wordpress v's www.gazotto.com Bringing Gazotto up to Web 2.0 design standard ... What is Web 2.0 design anyway? I would be grateful if someone could summarise it here for me.
Web 2.0 is basically the growth of social computing, applications and media. Think user generated specific content.
Thanks Matt. So really, we're talking about a convergence of technologies? The design element Skinny is trying to bring to bear on his site - is this an intrinsic part of Web 2.0? Lean, mean and very clean?
Web 2.0 doesn't realy involve design, but most Web 2.0 sites have a certain 'look' to them. Think user friendly/clean/minimalist
Nice redesign of your blog. For a nice list of Web 2.0 tutorials and resources, check out http://www.profitpapers.com/dev/web-20-design-tutorials.php
Yea, I'm gonna add some icons, and I'm gonna be redesigning the header. The header will look okay. I think for the test posts I'm gonna need to re-paste some with picutres because 99% of mine do have some sort of image. So, yea I want it to be lean but not so lean that it looks bland. If you got any ideas, please send them my way . Skinny
Web 2.0 is just like the concept DHTML - it's a term someone created as a buzzword to encapsulate shoving a bunch of existing technologies into a box and doing somewhat cool things with it. I have no problem with the buzzword, but it is slowly becoming the next term to get abused on the Net. There's nothing more silly than someone saying "I want my Web site to be Web 2.0," and when you ask them which technologies are of most interest and what strategies they want you to employ to use those technologies most effectively, they give you a blank stare, because someone told them Web 2.0 was "kewl" and they decided their site needed to be Web 2.0. It's gratifying and slightly humorous to see the lightbulb click on when they realize they've misused a meaningless marketing word in an effort to make a meaningful request. So, what is Web 2.0? It is the acknowledgement of the existence of a bunch of technologies, most of which have been around for a long, long time (some of which are newer and more untapped/revolutionary, but IMHO don't require a buzzword to make them any more interesting or important). It's an abused concept. Refer to it responsibly. Now, for those who use it to describe a design style, I'm totally down with that. That's a different matter entirely. If a specific style is attached to a word, then the word actually becomes useful, because people know what you're saying when you say "I like the ____________ (Web 2.0) style." It seems this is the usage in this thread. Nothing at all wrong with that
Check out the K2 theme for Wordpress - it has some Web2.0 elements like live comment preview and other web2.0 goodness I believe?
Web 2.0 according to The font shop - The design is looking good Skinny, only thing I would do is alter the footer so that it has the same blue border at the bottom like the rest of the site, at the moment it looks a bit cut off.
Yes it's web 2.0 design style. . Yea web 2.0 is the whole new technology RSS Ajax etc. Pauld the design I'm referring to is at msmug.com/wordpress. Abou the error, it's a tiny bug and I can't seem to figure out why it does that. Skinny
Basic rules for making a site web 2.0: - Use Ajax (drop down menus and such) - Round everything off - Reflections in images are always good - Use pastel colors - Make text %20 larger
