I hope some specialists can give their opinion.. On the main page of my site I've put quite some text including my keywords often. But now I'm thinking of redesigning the site (new layout) so it'll look much better. I can either upgrade the new layout so it looks a bit nicer, or go for a complete redesign and make it look more web 2.0 - give it a more simple layout, not a lot of text on the front page but only a few boxes with a bit of keywords and text that link to other pages. Positive thing of this will be that visitors will like my site better and probably bookmark it more and visit it again. Now I wonder if such a layout would be bad for my rankings, as a lot of keywords would only be only 1 time on my main page instead of multiple times.. does anyone have experience with redesigning sites and what it does for seo ? bad or not really an influence ?
i'm not the person that you are looking but i'm the person who has a similar problem. i want to read the others opinion
On a good designers hand who can code semantic markup, or validated and css powered sites, then the redesign could be good for your SEO in the long run. Some dont know the value of hiring a designer that not only makes good design, but best design practices such as SEO consideration, keyword placement, and user psychology wherein accessibility and user-friendliness is also paid equal attention too...
Not at all! Everything depends of course on how crappy or good is the underlying code and the linkage between the pages. However, a web 2.0-ish look in general does not cause any harm in respect to a web 1.0-ish look!
search engine crawlers hate dynamicly generated links, flash and java links. but bear in mind if you decided to go forward changing your layout that if your pages are well linked together by html clean links and that you use relevant keywords you are saved.
