i use a lot of ajax/scriptaculous, and jQuery (not all together, of course). i would add links, but i'm just a "peon" and i can't do that sort of stuff yet. i think the most useful area in ecommerce is in the customer presentation and interaction. ajax shopping carts with drag/drop... scriptaculous effects for popping up extra information. that's where this gets useful. if you can convert the BROWSER into a full fledged, interactive APPLICATION, you have an increased chance of "stickiness" with your customers/viewers. take a look at banana republic or anthropologie for some good insight.
