Dunno about anyone else out there but I feel totally cheated on the .eu landgrab.

With all the underhanded shennanigins that appear to have gone on, the bitter taste in my mouth gets worse the more I learn.

Azam wrote this article on the whole .eu domain name debacle. It's quite good.

This is one of the threads on Namepros.com discussing the farce and another.

    (From DNForum)
Or you could question how a single individual was able to register the following:
    money.eu internet.eu loans.eu loan.eu law.eu stocks.eu insurance.eu finance.eu trade.eu cars.eu mortgage.eu tax.eu books.eu computers.eu lawyer.eu security.eu help.eu women.eu poker.eu privacy.eu radio.eu ski.eu telephone.eu

Apparently, he registered them using a Benelux TM and grabbed them before the public landgrab.

Seems that was the way to go. Register a Trademark of some description that allowed you to apply for the domain as a Trademark holder. No-one else got a look in.

Appears that a number of people figured this out and were able to register the Benelux TM in a single day which gave them access to the Sunrise

I've heard nothing but complaints about .eu pre-registrations, especially with GoDaddy. I'm glad that I see no value in the .eu extension. :D

Man, that is sleazy. It should have been fair.

But will a .eu domain name be more powerful than a .com in europe?

Well is a .us or .ca domain more powerful than a .com domain in North America?

    Hey McFox,

I aggree with you on this. The only people that have beneffited are those that worked out how to abuse the system.

The good news is, it's not just domainers that are taking notice. It's reached the national media:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/eu/story/0,,1749618,00.html

This was given a prominent position in the national news pages of The Guardian, not just tucked away in the business or tech sections. A great sign of how seriously it's being viewed.

The more non-domainers know about what's gone on, the more embarrasing it is for the authorities, the better chance that something might be done...

    Mike.

OK here is an example of blatant corruption. I ordered and was both available..

    buy - property . eu
    currency - exchange . eu

How the hell would any other person think of buying those two particular domain names together?

    Well check the whois

That mother fu@x!%! definitely saw my submitted details at the registrar and thought to himself "nice i will have those thanks"

I did manage to get a few .eu that I wanted, but I agree that it was badly handled, names like 'autisticsociety' were bought by people who obviously do not run any kind of autistic society, so why were they allowed to buy it?
