Hi Guys, I am seeing quite a lot of copy pasts going on in DP. Here is one that is replied couple of days ago. Some one finds a good article and copy pasts the entire content in DP in order to gain reputation. And this type of posts will be followed by many innocent Dper's thanking them, thinking that the content is original. What is in it for DP? Copy paste is illegal, without giving credits to the original writer. This craps Dp's reputation in the eyes of search engines. DP becomes crap of copy paste articles. This has to be stopped. How to stop this DP integration with Copyscape - I am sure this is not gonna be very easy. But we have to do something to stop this happen. I am sure this copied content issue is one of the cause for DP forum's PR getting low from 6 to 4 All users using reporting function - It just takes a second to google and find out if the submitted content is original or not. Users, please find and report these copy pasting fellows. Mark the copiers red and throw them out of forum. Educate the people the cause and problems of copied contents. Hope this helps or what else we can do? Sam
For those who discover such copy pasters, do Report to us so that we can take the appropriate measures. Much appreciated.
You're correct. Without a license or consent from the copyright holder, you cannot publish someone else's work here. A link back or credit does NOT change that. Copy / paste posts aren't allowed, so just report them and we'll delete them. Even if it's the person's own article, we don't want them spamming their article marketing here.
WIsdomtool, jhmattern - Thank you gentle man. Can we do this to increase this steps Once I reported a copied content, sawz, the moderator gave me a rep and I was so happy. So, when ever a user reports a copied content, if user gets some thing back out of it, that would be a great point of start. This will increase our efforts and definitely we can see quite a lot of copied articles been removed. How about making an official announcement on this? That would be of great help.
Mods don't have the time to leave rep for everyone who makes a correct report. It's tough enough keeping up with issues as it is, so we leave rep in more extreme cases usually (like when someone makes a lot of good reports). Mods are also limited in how much rep they can give, just like other members.
Hello DP Owner. I have a 80% working way for this recently I made an informative portal and wanted users not to copy paste its content so I implemented that idea. ofcourse nothing is 100% fool-proof but yes it works 70% let me know if u r interested.
Half of the Internet is copy/pasted. Doing it to get rep is kind of lame. What does rep really do for you? Not much. I get good and bad. I really haven't gained or lost anything either way. It is nice when people appreciate you and say nice things about a post, but rep really doesn't change anything. I equate "rep" to "karma" on other forums. Doesn't mean a thing really. Now faking posts for iTraders would seem more like something to be concerned about. People really buy into that iTrader stuff... Literally.
Its not just about rep. If you've noticed, most of the people with lower posts who don't have much to contribute but still want to somehow make a post (maybe to increase postcount, get attention towards their signature links or maybe some other reason) do this copy-paste work. I'm not speaking about whole & useful articles here but some utter crap that is very much known by all. e.g. in the 'Search Engine Optimization' section i've seen many a times people with threads titles 'What is Seo' and then the OP will post some definition from Wikipedia or some other source. This is becoming very common with the new members, i believe this matter should be added in the DP rulebook so that people know its wrong and will think twice before doing something as such. The mod to members ratio is low so its surely way difficult for the mods to manage everything on DP, so a sticky post on some relevant category which is prone to such threads can be created for a week or so maybe.
