We need ads to appear different than the main content

We have a site that sells electric fireplaces and mantels http://electricflames.com/ and want to put adsense on there, at the moment if customers click any of the products it takes them to the product on the main site http://www.fireplacegateway.com there is no content and the site and it needs expanding, the problem we have is that if we build it with fireplace content I think there will be more chance of it displaying competitors adverts.
It would be good if the adverts were for furniture or other household products.
What we don't want to do is advertise competitors in the fireplace business.
    Any Ideas?

Correct me if I am wrong, but can't you filter the sites that you do not want appearing in your ads? You are right when you say that your site needs expanding. You should write 10-20 articles (or have them written for you) about this topic. Put them on different pages, each covering different keywords and then put links to your site at the bottom of the page. Good luck with this, post back and we will review the site after you have put ads on there.

When you say write 10-20 articles do you mean for something like the furniture and household products with appropriate keywords, then put adsense on these pages?
If we did this and put adsense on the home page of www.electricflames.com woud the home page still attract adverts from fireplace competitors?

In your first URL, there is very little content (written) and mostly images, if you did get it to display relevant ads then its most likely going to be displaying ads for your competing sites.

To display ads not related to your niche directly you would want to create seperate pages where it has household products but not your products, but im not sure why someone would do that and if it would be worth it.

That's true, you can write more and more content of the topic of furniture and household products, but as the domain name is related to electric flame then home page can attract adverts from fireplace sites. But I think you can decide which ads you don't want to show in your site, check the Google Adsense help for this.

We are just trying to extract a little extra revenue from the site. The main objective is to sell electric fireplace products. We were hoping to get a little extra revenue from adding adsense without advertising the competition.
I will go back to adsense and look through more thoroughly to see if we can exclude the competition.

Adsense gives you the option to filter out competitors ads.
