From what I've seen on Tv, your prime minster is surrounded by the military....I'm not sure he has much power to do anything.
The King will appoint a temporary caretaker govt, Thaksin will lose his diplomatic immunity and then the court case against him can proceed too. He lost the case at the first time and is now to be confirmed by a higher court. It's also an issue because of the southern unrest and no progress with the current govt so far. Nearly 2000 people are dead in the south. Islamists are playing deadly games and the army is going to restore law and order there too.
its hell rain here now. Kosan Road the backpackers paradise is in the middle of the goverment houses i do not think they are having to much fun just now. I have a radio station right out side my door step nothing there.
Your King has still power and the respect of all in your country. Don't worry, it will be allright soon. Khaosan Road travellers are usually out of troubles when things like this happen. I don't think it will be dangerous for them or any local civillians. Keep on coming people, Thailand is a nice country.
Did you listen well enough? Actually they said that the governing body will be a group of reformers that respected the King as head of State...
My wife are at the goverment house and they are given diffrent stories as they always do she is working for Ruters right now. Yes right now they said that we have Millitary Law and that they are under the king 20 min some one said something else.
Follow the TVUplayer link here if you want a CNN feed. I hear they're down in Thailand. Sorry it's a plug for my blog, but a relevant one
Everyone is waiting for ex PM to make his move if he wants to come back and if he is taking a fight with them. Lets see
A coup is basically when the military overthrows the government, right? Dang, sounds nasty... happened to France in the Napoleonic age too. If I was you I'd pack my bags and head to the land of free...
I haven't read anything about the religious background of of the general who led the coup. The individual who is a muslim is a retired general who was appointed as Prime Minister by the general who led the coup. Lets not drag the other religious debates into this thread. It is not appropriate.
Things seem pretty peaceful thus far. Not even a shot has been fired (at last check). Maybe it will just turn out to be an amazing adventure that your boss will get to talk about for years to come.
that's right, but it is also reported that he's close to the Monarch. Now if that would be a muslim coup then we'd see 6o million people fighting. Army is everywhere, in each and every bus etc.; everything is close today.
