We are having a military coup here

As of an hour ago, there are tanks and soldiers on the street of Bangkok and they have declared a state of emergency. Things have been pretty tense here politically lately, so this could get interesting. Hmm, maybe I should pack my bag, haha..

You sound pretty chill for something that sounds pretty serious. I know nothing about what's going on over there but I'd be really interested in hearing your thoughts and feelings about what's going on since you live there.

Hmm, army has or is attempting to seize power from the Prime Minister, who is in New York at the UN. Thai society is pretty split down the middle in favor and against the PM (hmm, sounds like the US) so things could get violent. Will have to wait and see. The army has seized control of the all of the TV stations, so I am just waiting for the internet to be cut at any moment. I'm 3 hours outside Bangkok, so I am fine, but I have a lot of friends in BKK.

You might try going through proxy servers to get to the news sites. I'm sure a lot of members here run some.

none of my friends in Bangkok know whats going on. ALready rumors of shooting and fighting happening, plus runs on ATMs but those rumors always start.. It will take a few hours to get the real story. The PM is on his way back from NY, that is true. I'm going to pop open a beer and lay low.

Yahoo News has an AP article that basically gives an overview of the overall political sitiuation of the past year and some background information on the Thai king. It says some nice things about the king and how popular he is.

Maybe you should. I heard you guys were moving to a rather better economy...I wonder what sort of things this will do to your country.......

It doesn't seem to be higly violent, yet, but keep your eyes and ears open.

    According to Bloomberg http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aVAsoMrOuu8w&refer=home
They also said that the prime minister has fired the army chief (like that does much good in a coup:rolleyes: ).

    Calm down, nothing serious yet.
I'm at the moment in Bkk

Heavy rain though - they all get wet and then go home
Thaksin can stay in the USA and clear his case he has with some American business men. 2 billion $$$ worth.

The problem coming is the PM wants fight back. If he wants to get home and make a fight for it then we have a civil war in Bangkok. So yes right now its calm but it will be fight if the PM do not step down and back off.
