I am familiar with the Mayan calender but I do not think that anyone can accurately predict when the world will end.
Everybody thought the end of the world was going to be last weekend, but we are still here. the world was supposed to end in the year 2000, and we are still here. The list goes on and on. If our world comes to an end, it will probably be of our one doing.
Well i do believe one day the end of " WORLD" will began but its too early to think about it. Personally i think after 100 years you may think about the termination of the world.
The end of the world was based on the legend of the crystal skulls which were made up and fabricated (it has been proven). The legend went as follows: All the skulls will come together and universal knowledge will be unlocked
I'm sure legends like these have a factual basis. But since hundreds or thousands of years have passed since this "fact", that after many "translations" and "interpretations", maybe we just misunderstood it the message. I don't think the world will end on December 12, 2012. There are still many things man needed to accomplish (or destroy?) before that time comes.
They couldn't predict their own end. They didn't predict the end of world, either. The confusion is with the word; 'end'. As far as I know, they've had some thousands year’s cycle which should end in 2012, and starts another cycle. Note that it doesn't matter - they're no anymore. I found the logic why did they end the calendar, is just hilariously idiotic. I mean, seriously, 700 years was enough. The guy perhaps just said, "Screw you guys, I'm going home!†Another thing which usually pop out with Mayan's calendar - the way world ends. I'm not sure where it says this, but I'll presume it's been said somewhere. Magnetic field reversal - this says that it should happen every 200,000 years on average. Record says last occurred 780,000 years ago. Yes, that's a way too big gap. Still, we've plenty of time to live, and not worry about it. Especially when we're not exactly sure how would it affect if that happen, until we witness it. Sure not going to happen on 12, 12, 2012. Sun storm, at most it will affect us pretty bad for weeks. Power plants, communication, etc will go down for weeks. Forests may get fired up. But that probably happen to a part of earth, not everywhere. It had happened before. Still can't end the world. Atomic smasher, LHC (Large Hadron Collider) is safe. It simply can't create a black hole. At most, micro black holes, that would be evaporated in no time. I wonder what will happen with you IF ILC (International Linear Collider), which is already being discussed, gets approved to build. And at last, NO! There's no comet to hit earth anywhere near 2012. Nostradamus, 7 out of 10 predictions are wrong, yet people say 'wow'. I'm sure he believed that history repeats itself, just in a different way. If you go back in time (not really, just read), you'll find that his prediction aren't prediction of future, but more of what was happening that time. The way he wrote is so confusing; I can make more dozens prediction out of his one prediction. One more thing to note, making predictions and cosmetics was his business. He started it after marrying a pretty wealthy woman. His son was sentenced to death in crime of setting a village on fire to prove his own prediction he made for the village. There's just so many ways that the world/universe can end, everyone should come up with a date. At least one will be correct, sad that nobody will there to congratulate him.
