Anyone who makes predictions about when the world will end deserves a swift kick in the nuts. It amazes me that after all the failed predictions they are still people out there who buy into this crap. There's always someone, somewhere who's the expert predictor. Yes, the stuff can be interesting and intriguing but you should take it with a grain of salt.

Think back to Y2K...omg COMPUTERZ WILL CRASH OMGZZZZZ, do you remember anything out of the ordinary that year? I don't. Probably a lot of sales of "Y2K Survival Packs" tho.

This is a funny topic because back in 1994 when I was a Freshman at Ohio State taking my first class (which was Astronomy 101), the professor had mentioned that in 2012 a huge asteroid was going to come very close to the earth, and although they don't know if it's going to hit or not, it will be one heck of a light show...

Then a few years later, the movies Armageddon and Deep Impact came out... at first there wasn't much brought up about the 2012 Asteroid during those movies (at least that I saw) but then after a while (it may have even been a year or two later, I can't remember), the media finally picked up on the 2012 Asteroid and ran some stories about it... then about a week later there was a big announcement that scientists had just calculated that the asteroid was not going to come anywhere close to the earth, the earlier predictions were wrong, not to worry about anything... of course, that smelled like a cover-up to me to prevent panic, haha... I mean, what are the chances that scientists just came up with the new calculations right when it was being brought to mainstream attention....

My guess is, there is an asteroid that will come close to the earth in 2012, and nobody knows for sure if it's going to hit or not.. They are not going to say anything about it, or blow it off as much as possible, to prevent a panic among the planet population... I am sure they are trying to come up with ways to destroy / divert the asteroid like in Armageddon, just in case it is needed, but that project I am sure is very hush, hush..

 

The Mayans calendar ended in 2012

Its a big misconception with people that they think and spread rumors right away that the WORLD will die (or rather be the end of human kind)

I do however believe it MAY be the end of the world, as WE KNOW it. Basically it may be the beginning of a new way of life.

The Mayans were way advanced for their time and I believe their is much better knowledge behind their ways. However i rather think of it that there may be a big change to how we knew life instead of the world crashing and burning to its death.

 

It was a beginning and it will be the end of it sometime in the far-off future....for many centuries mankind was scared of this idea of ending...huge meteorites, the burning sun, black holes, invasion of the extraterrestrials, etc.
Yes, in almost a decade a meteorite will hit the Earth so bad that it will be a worldwide disaster.

Mayans had identified a lot of things that we are just discovering today. They also have over 1000 years of observations to go by. It's possible that the steroid will miss but make sure that you are not in the impact zone on December 12, 2012

 

That’s not quite so. Maya’s calendar is 2-nd best and precise calendar of all times, and they were not stupid, and certainly they were much more informed about some stuff then us now. My point is - yes their calendar ends on 21 Dec. 2012 (representing 5 12-s) but that means, by them certainly, that it is the end of earth being ruled by human. Next number, by them, is number 13 and 13 is not number related to earth but related to gods.
This is what I read somewhere just for fun.
Is there be world end? I don’t think so. That’s by me, of course.

 

lol hey scott i created a thread like this not to long ago. Basically mayans predicted that the sun and earth will align with the center of the galaxy and this is true, it happens every 26,000 years and every time its happened its shifted the earth so to speak so if the earth shifts again the north pole could be mexico and the world would flood then freeze.
