What bothers me most is that they might actually be right! I mean, think about all of the ancient predictions that have managed to come true over the years (Nostradamos, anyone?). What if by the time it happens, we've all spent so much time debating whether or not it will happen, that we miss out on all of the things that we could have done to live our lives to the fullest? Life is too short no matter which way you look at it. Live each day as though the world will end tomorrow, and you'll be able to leave without regrets!
My philosophy in life is different from yours. I live each day like it is the last day of my life, the tragedy is its not the last day.
The issue is right or wrong, there is nothing we can do, worries are of no use, just get on with life. I like azharcs's style, live life to the fullest, even if it ends tomorrow, you will have no regrets. This is something I must learn too.
An asteroid has been identified that will pass close to earth on the Myan date and there is a possibility of an impact. Astronomy is fairly new in European science and the Myans had over a 1000 years of observations.
I see no difference. Both are same after all they are last days. I remember the quote, Think everyday is your last day, one day you will most certainly be right
There are lots of myth. I have heard one from Hindu that A Kali will appear and will destroy all the existence on earth. Everyone has their myth.
The world will not end unless Chuck Norris says so... After watching the "Matrix", are we sure it even exists at all?
I don't give a rat's ass about what all of you have to say... once that wretched asteroid hits this planet, all of you pathetic humans will be exterminated. Then the entire universe will be peaceful again. All hail the asteroid!
Global warming is a phenomenon that is baffling even for the best scientists in the world. Computer simulations does help but to say that it will only end our lives may be to simplify it far too much.
The problem with the 2012 debate is that it always starts off like this: somebody saying the Mayans predict the end of the world in 2012. Then somebody says they don't believe it, a few make fun, and the real issues never get addressed. The long count Baktun calendar reaches a resolution of all it's cycles at that point. The Mayans didn't make any destruction predictions, that has been extrapolated. For those that belive in the cycles of time and understand the correspondence between macro-and-microcosm, this would indicate a major shift approaching. This could literally be anything, but I happen to believe that the "event" will be a shift in consciousness rather than ridiculous Armageddon scenarios. It will appear later that key factors in this transformation peaked around this time, for period preceeding and following the "Neverpoint" in 2012. We are actually in the midst of this change now, following the major changes of Y2K. Many people like claim that nothing happened for Y2K, and so they dismiss 2012. However, major shifts occured, and continue to occur. For example, in the US political sphere, we have the fascist Bush administration and the loss of freedom following 9-11. Just for an example. Looking back, it seems that major changes did indeed occur since that time, at a rate far greater than usual. What will winter solstice bring in 2012? Clarifying this question is actually the entire reason for my online presence, and most of what I do. Why? Because I am a kook who waits for the end of the world and believes aliens are coming to eat our heads? Perhaps I am a kook, but I believe that 2012 represents a counterpoint to the regressive changes begun in 2000, and that this will be so even without any mysticism or disaster. Simply the power of creative individuals focusing on the transformation will cause something to occur. What that something turns out to be will be entirely up to us. 2012 is a deadline to get our collective crap together, or face the rather mundane environmental devastation that awaits us. This can be true whether the Mayan calendar has any external significance or not. We can make it true. We can work for world change at an accelerated rate and achieve far more than might otherwise be done. Consider the effect that setting deadlines has on your own work. Even if you don't meet deadlines perfectly, more work gets done with finish-by date than with an open-ended date. Just my 2cents. I think that more people would benefit from understanding that it's not just the Mayans; even a computer algorithm has pinpointed that date.
I don't think anyone can predict the end of the world. We can't even predict earthquakes let alone armageddon
