The only thing that is going to happen in 2012 for sure is the Olympics in London - which, upon reading the title, is what I thought this thread is going to be about.

2012 is just when the ancient calender stops, there never was a prophecy for it outside of that its the end of an age. If you follow the calender there were several ages come and went and nothing happened, just celebration that the world didn't end. At the end of every cycle some global catastrophe was suppose to occur. As the Mayans wrote this age should end in earthquakes, not ice ages or some astronomical cross. As for the end of the calender, maybe they just thought 2012 was far enough ahead that they could take a break. If not for the advent of calculators how far ahead would someone expect us to have calculated and written down a calender? Why waste time going more than a few hundred years into the future?

Pre-Egyptian peoples studied the stars and made calenders by them. It is not unusual or unexpected to have a calender that tracks its date by the position of the sun. Anyone with a rudimentary understanding can devise a tool to find the equinox and solstice just the same as they can build a sundial. Many civilizations have done the same with the cycles of the moon.
As for floods? Planets are out of the question moving that much in the next 5 years, the moon is moving away from the earth by a few inches per year.
As for massive floods without the help of space objects? Most of the Midwest USA was once an inland sea. It has been volcanic, raised and lowered by natural geologic forces not related to ice ages or lack there of. The Sahara Desert was once a lush tropical rain forest with many oceans and seas, again geologic forces caused it to drain its water millions of years ago.
Atlantis? Until I can go dive on the site and someone can show me direct evidence that there actually was an ancient lost city it will remain only a story.

Humans have done some strange and wondrous things in the past, for all you know they built boats in the mountains, after all they have traced perfectly straight lines in the desert with white rocks, built pyramids on multiple continents which today would be impossible for various reasons, and most were so superstitious they prayed to a god that the sun would rise in the morning as Moonlight previously pointed out.

Ice ages never stopped us before. Humans came to North America during the last great ice age and have done very well living in harsh conditions all over the globe for thousands of years.
What always gets me are the people who point to modern climate change as a sign. There have been dozens of ice ages and recessions long before humans entered the equation. Unless dinosaurs drove hummers I think that saying the continual progression and recession of ice is simply a man made ordeal is absurd.
Another sign from the Bible is violence in the Middle East. Cain killed Abel, I call that violence in the Middle East.

Everyone has predictions, Nostradamus wrote the world will end in the 2060s, the bible refers to the time period between the first and second coming as one day then says the church will be raptured seven years before the return. People have been predicting the end of the world for centuries based on all the "signs" and people wasted what lives they had preparing for an end that never came. See Y2k. Everyone thought the world would end. The Teletubies would have laser beams coming out of their heads and be trying to kill the Simpsons.

Personally I went through survival school because as an adventurer I have a far greater chance of dieing after getting lost somewhere than I do by needing to survive the end times. I base my life on quality over quantity. If I lost all of those who I care about and was suddenly unable to enjoy my life I don't feel it would be a life worth living.

So I must ask since you now live in the tropics/sub tropics; what do you plan to do if whatever catastrophe awaits destroys the precious tropical ecosystem? A nuclear winter from war or an object from space can easily make it snow on the equator and kill a lot of plants and animals that need the warmth to survive.

My advice is to plan for the survival of your family in the real world. It can be a far more dangerous place than the wilderness can and they have a far greater probability of losing their way.

Well this whole idea of "The End Time" seems to me like a huge piece of.... anyway trying to get fit for extreme conditions should be a must, but not because of some theories or ancient predictions. It should be for ones health.

As for the 2012 event, we shall see... The 2000 event wasn't that big of a deal. I mean I was staring at the fireworks and asking myself "why are we still alive ? It's 0:00:01 1st Jan. 2000 and nothing happened"...

Blah.. I agree with the dude that said that he values the quality over quantity :)

Let's have a grate time this "last" years, the same way we had b4 the third millennium :) Pace.

The worst thing we have to look forward to is a horrible disease that will come and a giant space rock.. The space rock will probably fly by us in 2018 or 2020 or might be 2028 somewhere around there... But then it will fly by in the future. And then there will be maybe one or two horrible disease outbreaks and that will be about it.

Mayans predict that the world will end in 2012 im sure everyone has heard the story.

but the strange thing is that the mayans were not the only people to predict this. How the Mayans knew all this is still a shock to me. And its been proven that when the poles shift that the world does go into chaos.

If this turns out to be true what does this say about religions of the world?

Wouldn't this disprove any religions outside of the Mayan religion because if the world does end this way then its not the way its said in the bible. or the Quran. Where the Mayans right the whole time?

    Don't believe it!

I am Muslim the Qu'ran has given a list of things and signs that will happen before the world ends. A lot of them are happening already, so I do believe the end of the world is approching!

I do not think it is that early though, we still need to wait for Jesus to come back and another important person, which will take some years, that is how I believe it to be anyway!

nobody knows what happened to them or how they died out if they even did die out. maybe the aliens who gave them this knowledge took them away, the only civilization fit to live with them!

I have heard people claiming that end of the world wil happen on a certain date but I think it's impossible to know exactly when it will happen plus we all live in different timezones.

well its not exactly said that the world will end that day its simply saying that changes will bring the end of the world on that day. if you see what they are talking about the sun aligns with the galaxy on that day and the earth completes a full "wobble" and that can cause the north and south poles to change causing drastic weather conditions, earthquakes, etc...

IMO I think its a very credible theory seeing how its been proven that it does happen, it has happened and seeing how the mayans who lived in stone age times knew about this 2000 years ahead of time with a calender more advanced than our own seems like they know what there talking about.

Funnily enough the last time I heard they were planning to switch the Geneva particle accelerator on in 2012. Could be connected.

i don't know what to believe anymore..

They also predicted the exact day white people landed on there land I don't know but i think that counts for something.

Maybe global warming is slowing adusting to the coming change? maybe we had nothing to do with global warming the world is just getting ready to go haywire.

honestly i think we should put a little more effort into finding out if this really messes with the earth. If it does build a damn space station on the moon and mars! hell ill fly around in a tin can in space for fun till the aliens pick me up, I don't think i wanna be here when shit goes down.
