You still havn't given any evidence.

    Science - what science? Example?
Mythology - Key word being myth, i.e. not real
Astronmoy - Well I believe some things with astronmoy, but things lining up as a cross? It's just by chance, it's not like some kind of higher being is watching the planets and when they see a cross they are going to go "oh bugger, better give earth a hard time".

There is a bunch of things wrong with the planet, most man made, but from what I believe that wasn't fortold by stars and myths.

I respect others views on things like this, but with absolutly no evidence (as far as I know, you havn't produced any) your going on blind faith.

This might have been better in the Religion & politics section, probably will get moved there.

Well first of all, this was a speculative and philosophical thread, with no "evidences promised" for anything. I just ask some questions on what others believe about it.

Personally I prefer people do their own homework and find the facts before deyning anything, but I'll do an exception and provide some facts as soon I find the correct bookmarks and references (my brain capacity is big, but not that big unfortunately)

Seconldy, I've studied this for years and have not made any personal archive of various evidences and resources as I simply provide what I learn for my own purposes. But as said, I'll try find some, and get back to you on that,

Yeah, i'd be interested to read some things on it. Just isn't something i'd go out on a limb to find I guess.

    ...your kidding me right?
Sure people have been talking about it, but damn it! You might also die of a heart attack... RIGHT NOW! Are there any camps for surviving heart attacks? Im not making fun of your belifes, but come on, moving to South America to prevent from blowing up if the earth decides to in 5 years?

Here is one important one: Major climate change occured 5200 years ago, and notice the scientist who've discovered this is sayin everything seems to indicate that we are getting towards a new one (like the mayans prophecised which means this very close new one most likely is related to 2012.

Not with the above in mind, remember the mayan cycluses of big changes are are at various cycluses, one of these being the cyclus of guess what? Exactly 5200 years.

So there you got one example of the scientifical evidence backing up the mayan calendar / system of belief.

And if you add another 5200 years, you get a total of 10400 years. And guess what supposedly happened then? The great distruction of Atlantis. And what else with scientifically backed up material is proven to have happened then? wel it was the it was the Paleoindiaian phase, the Great Ice Age, major climate chages and earthly disasters. So, again the mayans calender proves right and correct. A star explosion also happened at this time which may be related, I qutote:

"With Nova Cygni 1992 ( http://www.seds.org/hst/novacyg.html ), for example, we are observing a star explosion that occurred approximately 10,400 years ago (4,000 years earlier than young earth creationists claim is possible)"

And as mentioned, 10 400 years later again from that, which means 2012, there will be some very interesting and unusual astronomical events occuring again as verified by NASA among others. Here is a full list: http://www.seasky.org/astronomy/astronomy_calendar_2012.html

Note December 21 - The Winter Solstice occurs in the northern hemisphere at 11:11 UT occurance which is the EXACT date and time the mayans said would be time end of this cycle and start of a new one with all the worlds disasters culminating.

Also, it is scientifically proven that the mayan calendar is more accurate than the one we use to this day, the gregorian one.

The Mayans developed (at least) three calendars that we will consider here. The first is the Long Count Calendar. It counts the number of since the beginning of the current cycle. Each cycle contains 2,880,000 days (about 7885 solar years). At the end of each cycle the Universe is destroyed and recreated. Interestingly, for longer time periods the Mayans had developed larger time units than are needed for the Long Count Calendar; the largest being about 63,081,377 solar years!

It is the most accurate astronomical calendar made by man up to this date and includes and incedible abount and information about past, preseent and future astronomical evens that is quite impressible they knew about back then without even a telescope.

so from the abobe, obviously the mayan knew what they were talking about, so its good reasons to take their warings and prophecies under consideration when you compare it with real proven moden day scitentific method and see that it is indeed a match of what they already said so long ago.

I'd say there just theories.. Seems ilogical. unusal events will always happen. It's just people can't figure something out.

Nas: My motto is to be better safe than sorry

So far it worked great and all my wealth and success I can attribute to this along with spiritual development and exercises and a deeper understanding of oneself and our connection with the universe.

Besides, its not about all blowing up. We simply dont know, can be a poleshift, ice age, earth disaster, a planet coming too close creating many problems here such as floods (btw may explain the ancient flood that happened, as other planetary bodies close to us make great changes in the ocean level, even the moon itself)

Also, i did not move to south america OnLY because of 2012 issues, but because I'm a researher of ancient history, cultures, mythology, legends and anthopology, with a special interest for the unexplained and mysterious, and from my work I've discovered with almost 100% certainty where Atlantis was located, and most likely that was around Latin Americas and the Mecian gulf, and both parts of the now current ocean level of east and west of latin americans ans south americas got submerged under water at some point, and all of it fits the description of atlantis. more on this on my atlantis research page: http://atlantis.onestop.net - havnt been updated in ages but you'll get an idea of what I base my theories from regarding latin amercias and possibly parts of south america being Atlantis.

    Peace

    "New Ice Age Coming" ... "the Jupiter Effect" ... "Y2K" ... "2012"

In my 64 years on this earth I've heard these and more cries of "The sky is falling!" These things just serve to keep people scared and on edge, rather than living productive lives day to day.

Jim4767 is right. People who overdo it on preparing for the worse are already far gone by living a life full of fear and paranoia.

The 'doomsday' of 2012 is predicted by the Mayans, but as I've told people in the past, in order for you to accept this theory in whole you'd also have to accept their culture and rituals. They would sacrifice people (mainly each other) to the sun god because they thought the sun wouldn't rise (pretty much like my ancestors, except the Aztecs sacrificed prisoners instead of someone at random). Years later we discover that hey, we don't have to kill people for the sun to rise because the Earth rotates. Failure to comprehend this as an early civilization shows as there are still blood stains on the pyramids of those the tribes used to kill and throw down the side of the pyramid.

All in all, if you believe the world will end on that year you'd also have to give into the Mayans way of thinking. If you don't and believe in modern science and it's advancements then you're only contradicting yourself by believing ancient comprehensions that you wouldn't dare to believe in this day and age.

I can't believe how people fall for this New-Age apocolyptical nonsense. Hey! Remeber how the world was supposed to end with the Millennium in the year 2000? (Which BTW was the prophesy of "Old-Age" religious apocolyptical nonsense.)

If mayans could predict something that hadn't reached them already (light) then aliens exist.

We'll see how that olympics goes :)

Time will tell, time will tell, but it might all go to hell.

Hehe. We'll see nothing much else we can do than take into consideration and be prepared that something bad might happend, at least then you'll be walking with your boots right into it
