International law gives "belligerent warships" the right to visit and search "neutral commercial ships." If the "neutral" commercial ship attempts to evade or resist, "measures of coercion necessary to exercise this right are permissible." In addition, it is legal to blockade all maritime traffic going to another belligerent. In addition, it is even legal to attack neutral vessels breaching a blockade if they resist capture. The Israeli's could have legally sunk that ship. Their not doing so was an undeserved kindness to the people who are attempting to supply Hamas with weapons to murder Israeli children. Of course, none of this International law matters to people whose first and last word in law died over a thousand years ago.
