Hey everyone, We are looking for some constructive criticism on our new blog. www.mables.com/blog We've had www.mables.com for years now, and we wanted to add a blog so we can easily update with short sweet content all the time, be syndicated, link to other blogs, and reference our main site when possible for more links. We've filled up almost a months worth of blogging and are ready for the traffic to start pouring in. But before we get crazy traffic we'd like to know if there is something we should change. So any comments on design, layout, usability, linking, SEO, AdSense placement, etc. would be appreciated. Thanks!
I love the retro/candy shop feel to your blog I also like the fact that the layout fits any screen resolution (I have a VERY wide laptop screen and the site looks great on it!)
Thanks. We went for a bright color retro/simple feel. And I too have a wide screen laptop so we worked on making sure it was good and expandable.
Works really well good job. I like the rounded corners in input boxes on comments page... how did u do it? also I believe you can put adsense 250x250 or something on post pages - where people comment
Yes! I also wanted to add that the retro feel makes your blog unique (different from other blogs) which makes readers want to tune in
With CSS of course! But it seems to only work with Firefox/Mozilla. here is the code ... input[type="text"], textarea { padding:0.3em; border: 1px solid #CCCFBC; color: #656F5C; -moz-border-radius: 0.5em; } Code (markup): Notice the -moz-border-radius ... that's what does it. We have the AdSense right under the blog title on the individual post pages, how's that look? It's not on the main blog page though.
Well we are a "Unique Shopping Blog" so I hope the design helps people like it, and want to come back. We also just started parsing some RSS feeds (simplepie) from our blog into relevant content pages that already exist. See our Retro-Vintage category page at http://mables.com/retro-vintage.php ... It's off to the right hand side.
You have interesting content in your website, but i think that you should change that skin to attract more users. Regards, Adriano
I appreciate the comments, but what do you find unappealing about the skin? You mean the design right? Too much white space? Too many colors? Wrong colors? What would attract more users? Or better yet, what is on our site that can be changed to attract more users?
Thanks to everyone who took the time to check out our blog and comment. All advice helps whether it's good or bad.
