I know there are plenty of ways in SEO'ing in global world but what about the UK? I know I would need to get .co.uk domain first. but then what? Commenting in UK blogs? posting in UK forums? What about directories? I know plenty directories in world wide but none in the UK. What else can be done to optimise in G .co.uk? Thanks.
- Regiser a .co.uk domain - Host it in the UK even if its more expensive than the US - search engines know where the site is hosted - Build a list of UK-specific keywords. Use geo-specific functions in google's free keyword tool to get search volumes in UK. You will find that brits look for the same thing with slightly different phrases than yanks - Do your on site seo with these phrases - Do your backlinking with these phrases - If at all possible get a few authority links from big UK sites - see if you can comment on The Guardian, Daily Mail etc. I haven't checked this out lately but some of them allow comments after articles That would be my short list if I were targetting the UK.
Optimized your site if you have a domain of .co.uk It also ranked in google.co.uk if you have a good domain and also a good optimization
UK domian will help but even if you have .com domain but targetting UK visitors, you can set the geo to UK within your google webmaster tool which will do just fine. other then that, the optimization part is same for all regions. hosting on UK server will help a bit but only consider if you are in a highly competitive niche where just about anything matters. try to get as many backlinks form UK sites
once you know your targeted keywords, explore the links of the websites ranking #1 , #2 and #3, then try to get the same links, that should be a good start.
