but if 100 or even only 2 people bid 1 cent then you havent got a unique bid, its shared between 2 people, you have to be the ONLY participant with that particular bid to win.

My local radio station runs this sort of promo every few weeks or so, sometimes the winning bid is a few pence, sometimes a few pounds, but the way the radio station does it is thus:

you enter via text message (SMS) and enter your bid.
(lets say 23pence for the example)
and lets say 5000 people enter, each sms costs £1 = £5000 entry
of all the numbers 1p to 99p there are at least 2 bids for them EXCEPT 23p, therefore you have the lowest UNIQUE bid and you win the prize, no more money changes hands, you already paid your entry fee with the sms.

now do you understand? (and i havent even looked at the site in question)
