social bookmarking submissions, social networking would help you get some numbers. your main goal should build a base of repeating visitors. to do that you have to get in traditional marketing like on-page seo, link building etc.

guest posting on other blogs is a great way to drive traffic to your website, another very interesting way to build links and rank in the search engines is to sponsor wordpress templates.

If it's a website selling clothes, I suggest using social shopping website to promote it.

Article marketing is a great way to send traffic to your website.

You should write at least 1 article a day and submit it

Some types of sites benefit from topsites. You sign up, get some code with a voting button, put it on your site, and let your visitors vote for you. My site is an example of such a system (site only days old, so kinda empty)

    Articles.

Add plenty of content to your site, then submit the same amount of unique articles to the top article directories.

For blogs , updating the contents regularly , posting comments on blogs related to yours with a link to your blog , forum postings , signature links , and posting links on different social networks like facebook , ezdia , linkedin , twitter , orkut etc which helps you to promote your blog.

For website, the same as above and also write blogs related to your website. Also social bookmarking sites like digg , ezdia , delicious , mixx etc. which also helps to promote and bring traffic to your website

Personally I use Youtube to get tons of website traffic. It's very easy to turn an article into an awesome video.

There are couple of ways you can do this.

    1. Record yourself taking about your topic.

Just remember to be animated and interesting if you choose this option. I usually use Camtasia Studio instead of recording myself via webcam or camcorder.

    2. Create a Powerpoint video.

Record a Powerpoint video with your article in the video. Add music and pictures to make the video more popular. Camtasia Studio makes this process very easy so I recommend getting it if you do have it already.

I have several Youtube accounts I use just for video articles. Normally I get at least 20 clicks a day for each video article I create.

    AND IT'S ALL FREE TRAFFIC!

That's interesting. I've always wanted to try this, but I've always thought that it was too hard to do. How much time do you spend making a video (apx.)?

Actually creating videos for youtube is very simple. The amount of time it takes depends on the type of video I'm making. If I'm doing a screen capture it normally takes me 90 minutes for the whole process. If I'm doing a Powerpoint it takes me no longer than 1 hour.

Another method you can use to get youtube traffic is the windows movie maker technique.

Open windows movie maker and import a picture into a new video. Make the video length between 1-2 minutes. Also add a background song to the video. Make sure to use royalty free music (I know a good website but I not sure if it's against tos to post the url).

Now a subtitle to the video with the following text.

Click the link in the description box to (Your Topic)
    -------------->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

When you upload your video to Youtube make sure you include your url in the description box. This method has a extremely high CTR especially when you are promising good content. It takes me about 5 minutes to create one of these videos.

I've never submitted my blog to RSS blog directories. Does it help much?
