Actually this is not all true. These are artificial. Everything you do is artificial. You can't advertise your way to success. Only Microsoft does that, and that's because they have a lot of money and a known reputation because of their OSes and XBOX. You have to provide a service or something unique and useful. I had one website, that was EXTREMELY popular, because it offered a chat program that worked extremely well, it had a live community, within a couple weeks it went from 10 people a day to 6,000 people a day. Why? Because it was servicing an already existing community that really needed this product. If you offer some amazing secret to something or some extremely entertaining, or extremely useful content, then your website will be popular, without you doing ANYTHING.
Well spoken! This is a place to increase traffic by becoming a member of the community, not 'selling' to the community. Take part in discussion and methods without trying to blatantly self promote...just not very classy.

traffic from traffic exchanges totally depends on your website. It only really works for a good landing page that is promoting ways to make money with your current business blogging is also a great way to promote your affiliate products
That's true .... if you have a paid per click site or auto surf site - then you will attract a lot more members by advertising and promoting on those (similar) sites - they're like one nasty little community (i was stuck in that community for about 1 year when I first began in 2005).
I have used several exchanges and haven't seen any real results.In many ways forums and bloging is better.It also depends on what market you are going after.

Traffic exchanges are great but the funny thing is I get better sales through my banner ads and text ads within traffic exchanges. I look on it like this, everybody is there advertising their websites and when you utilize the banner and text ads, 1 click on those can amount to a sale because the person clicking on it knew it was a ad but it was interesting enough to click on so those clicks convert into sales, so I have been utilizing that within all the traffic exchanges I am apart of and it works great. Forums are obviously a great way to promote your business and advertise, blogs and article marketing. Article marketing really is great I dont care what anybody has negative to say about it, write your articles properly and legibly and fill them with keywords and it will work out for you. When people re-publish your articles its a backlink everytime so its great. I just focus heavily on those four things, advertise.. advertise.. advertise, I blog, I participate on forums and I write articles. A combination of all of that will really build you some free traffic, it does for me so I know it will for u.

I have tried some of the social Networking sites, and I have had abismal results with them. On the first day I joined Direct Matches, I had tons of friends, and they all wanted to PM me or email me with a ton of crap. I have started to comment on blogs, I am looking into You Tube videos, and some of the other things mentioned in this thread. Traffic has increased, so I really appreciate those of you that are adding to the conversation. Thank you!
I was listening to an interview from Michael Senoff's hardtofindseminars.com and he was saying that he gets a ton of traffic by uploading all 117 hours of his audio interviews as podcasts to iTunes and he also said that he made short video clips and posted them to Youtube. He says this is giving him a ton of traffic. All you have to do is a search under his name on Youtube or iTunes and you can see what he is doing. Pretty impressive.
