That's what I know and do

Blog Post and Commenting---say something for teh content's sake;
Forums Posting---contributing useful info;
Article Submission---no duplicating and relible article website;
Directory Submission---free one usually don't give u much help ,go for the paid one.
Social Bookmarking--make u stuff unique enough for others to bookmark u.

These are not free and they do not drive much traffic. These take lots of time and work and can be very costly. Most of these are mainly to build backlinks.

I think hese all are old fashioned ways. tell us new and effective ways now.

 

When you comment a post, you can write your link too Nofollow depends on each blog and his owner, some are nofollow and some "do-follow" (more nofollow I guess, to prevent spamming)

There are sites which list blogs that do follow comment links so you can target those for your comments. Just do a quick google search
