Ways to advertise

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by Deadlock, Aug 9, 2006.

I just recently started a website that lets people add their site to my site and gives information about their site like their rates for links they sell. My problem is now is where/how can I advertise? I am currently only advertising on google adwords but I was looking for different spots. All ideas are welcome and thanks for your time.

Well I've heard alot of hype about myspace, so i have a expiremental myspace campaign going on now. So if you think you could market to your general myspace user then check into that, you'll find alot of information in the "general marketing" seciton

Also, directories.. there are literally hundreds (half owned by people on this forum) that you can submit to. Even if you don't get alot of traffic from some of them it's still one more backlink to your list.

Good idea with the adwords, but what keywords are you targeting, how much time did you invest into research on choosing your keywords..

Well I am aiming my target to more of the webmaster type of group. So I doubt myspace would work since most of the members do not run a website. I have been slowy added my site to directories, sticking to only free one's as of now. As for google adwords I am aiming more towards keywords like "Selling Links" , "Make Money" ... Stuff like that.

Well since your in a specific niche, join forums such as DP, and post on blogs.. The more you help people and become known around a certain area the more people will want to go to your site. Say you became a senior member here with say 4000 informative post. Well people are going to see that and think that you will have a vast of knowledge at your website.

Why don't you start off with posting a link exchange request or link buying request in the advertisement forums here? and basically make an annoucement if/when you are giving any discounts...you might attract some attention there.

You might want to change your layout and create a form though. You might want your website to look a little more professional for your annoucements here to start working..

No offence but there is nothing I hate more than having to open my email client and type in an email...I like forms a lot better ;)

Find a site with similar core subjects to your site subject, these are options for you to consider advertising on, but make sure they are not your competitors

Wow, we don't come up with a lot do we?

I always wonder when I see a thread like this, if no one posts because they don't like to give out real world ideas, or if what is posted is simply all there is. Sure reads like a wet noodle.

    Let's see, we have

    • Quality links from high PR sites
    • Link lists
    • Directories
    • Forum posts
    • Ad words
    • Pay ads on relevant (non-competitor) sites
    • MySpace
    • Blog posts

Did I miss something? .. No? damn.. I was hoping there was more to this. Its little wonder that spam is still around eh? Cause it works. That list makes me feel like cold calling wouldn't be a better option.

It really is amazing how little we have to work with, and how well some sites can work it.

I have been looking for websites to advertise on but most the sites that I believe will help my site will cost me around $xxx.xx. Which is money I don't have right now. I can fork over a few bucks but not that much. Also I like link Exchange but not really for hits, but more so for backlinks.

    Thanks for the help.

Yeah I feel the same way, That's why I dont get when I see directories charging $5 for a link. I'm sure it won't really help the PR either even if the directory has a high PR just because there are so many links on the website. But thats me.

But does anyone know and good free directories I can post to?
